What about entertaining a trade involving H20 and trying to get Allen who has become unhappy in Seattle?

But then wouldn't we be rebuilding the old Bucks?

I'm not so sold on Arajuo that I'm willing to give up Sweetney, then they are in the same boat next year with the adjustment period and what not.

Give them an expiring contract for Booth maybe, I'm not sure. I wouldn't give up Sweetney at this point to get Arajuo.

you have got to be kidding me... BRIGGS... a year ago you were saying WE MUST TAKE SWEETNEY with the #9 pick ashe could be a force in the post for the next 10 years for us. Have you totally lost any faith or patience in the 21 year old? As far as I am concerned he's untradable for anything short of a top 5-6 pick in what looks like a weak draft, and I'm not taking a bad contract back for him either.

If I'm doing that deal its Kurt and Frank for Booth and their #1.. something along those lines... trading Sweetney for late lottery pick does very little... especially when Mike has shown signs he will be very good.

I would not want to do it--the sweetney part, I want to really avoid that at almost any cost. But to me, a C is a pivotal step and I would give up a reasonable amount to trigger a deal to get 1. If I could get Stromile Swift, I would give up Sweetney to get Arajuo.

"If I could get Stromile Swift, I would give up Sweetney to get Arajuo."-Fair enough, but you'd need to know:
a) Will Swift accept the full MLE
b) Will West match the offer?

If the first is YES and the second is NO, I'd at least consider the trade. Let's see how Sweetney finishes the year.

i dont know. we need a C, that is the bottom line. if we dont get 1 we will not be winning anything of significance with the unit we have. How we get that C?????

Whats the difference between Mohammed and a 1st round pick? Either one can develop, and Mohammed has actually been playing very well. Sure he got rocked by Curry, but Curry is one of the few centers out there who basically play against themselves every night. And giving up Sweetney is silly. He has shown great improvemetn and should start next season as we'll trade away Thomas for something. May TT and Thomas for Jamison and Wahad. Then start Mohammed, Sweetney, Jamison, Houston and Marbury. If we could get rid of Houston for an up and coming SG like Qrich Jrich we would be creating a great young gropu of players and essentially finishing a rebuild on the fly.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Sweetney should be an untouchable. He can be one of the top two rebounders in the NBA, and may become a low post presence in time. He has only scratched the surface of his talent.

Nazr really is a PF playing C. I think that there will be an influx of 7+ footers who can play and we need to get 1. H2o trade value is low. He is older-will be 33 going on 34 next season-he makes 60mm over 3 more years-i don't see any team trading a young prospect for a guy who is regressing, againg and makes nearly half the salary cap--in his last year he becomes valuable if the CBa remains the same, but we'll see.
the problem is the east is starting to pick up a lot of talent and clubs will have guys like lebron J Eddie Curry Kwame Brown Arenas Wade Butler Odom Bosh et al who will come of age--most of these guys are still college age 22-23 and the east owns all of the high draft picks and a few teams have considerable cap space.

what i fear is we get caught in between cycles-were not rebuilding-we are retooling-yet we are nowhere near close to having a club that could compete for a title--we really cant keep playing merry go round with the roster either.

Ill stay with my opinion that we need to find a legit post up C through this draft sign a young athletic swingman and or a 1 who can play 2[who is also young--like a bobby jackson larry hughes type player] and bring in a a couple of second rounders and a couple of free agents with demarr and see if we can find a diamond in the rough. GS got Arenas 3 years ago around 35 or so, so it can be done.

But the main thing is getting a C to stay with Marbury and we can build the rest of the team like Memphis--more depth to wear down opponents. there are several Cs in this draft--i feel we can position a trade to get 1 of them iMHO

i like to keep sweetney at almost any cost, but if he was a conduit to a favorable deal where we could solidify C--i would consider it. they have to make the decision what is best for the team going forward. I hope sweetney is here, but I dont view him as untradeable.

to me Sweetney is just as big a part of the equation. If you could put a Dampier type center along with Sweetney you have a front court that can really wear down teams every night be dominating the boards and giving you inside muscle.

A center is important but not worth downgrading talent. Nets have been to b2b finals with no center, Bulls won 6 titles with warm bodies there.

There is no doubt a dominating bigman is a good track to building a title team, but the guys being talked about here arent that caliber.. so why downgrade other positions?

I would like to get into this draft but staying the course and taking advantage of a deadline deal/salary dump isnt a bad course either.

The think that doesnt worry me about Isiah is he like the draft and likes molding young players.

I think he made the Marbury trade to make sure he has a winning team for the next couple years, which will take the pressure off him to do other things.

i dont know if the knicks can continue to take on salary. i mean just from a business perspective looking at cablevision the company, i dont see how they can take on any more material salaries. if anything, i would think a smart business plan would be to pair payroll and try to improve the club at this point through the draft and trying to find the new mason's and starks of the world. there has to be a fine line of where it will end because we took on 172mm in salaries over the next 3 years with the additions of penny marbs norris and nazr+ we committed to an additional 30mm for KT--so you are talking over 200mm we commited to just 5 players of which one is an all star and the others are ordinary players. There is a point where an accountant or Dolan's Daddy is going to say STOP! You cant take on another penny hardaway, the only way i see us doing anything like that is striaght up ending contract for player and if the other team doesnt like it, to bad.

hey maybe well get rasheed shaq and steve francis.

BRIGGS... I agree, but look at the next 3 years. I'm saying we only need one more of those deals to work. One more Marbury type trade. If we do nothing at this deadline we knock off $10 mill for those guys. The following year we could use Penny's deal, but TT also expires. I like Tim alot but we could sign him for $7-$8 mill a yea EASILY and save $5 mill right there. Sorry, but nobody else is giving Tim max money. The following year you let Shandon walk all together ($8 mill) and if we want to resign Houston (assuming he's healthy and still killing teams with his awsome J) we could be GENEROUS and give him $7-$8 mill a year for 3 years and thats $13 mill coming off the cap.
