Many things haven’t gone well for the Knicks this pre-season but when you look at the Knicks point guard play, every fan should be thankful for what they have for this upcoming season.

The Knicks replaced last year’s PG’s of Jeremy Lin, Baron Davis, Toney Douglas, and Mike Bibby with the trio of Raymond Felton, Jason Kidd and Pablo Prigioni. The biggest surprise for a lot of Knicks’ fans is the PG play of Prigioni. He has run the offense beautifully and has had to play a lot of his time with the non-guaranteed contacted players, which make his numbers even better.

Here is a look at each of this year’s PG’s statistics for this preseason:-

Points Per Game – Felton 11.3, Kidd 4.0, Prigioni 6.0
Field Goal % – Felton .422, Kidd .273, Prigioni .355
3 Point % – Felton .381, Kidd .211, Prigioni .304
Rebounds Per Game – Felton 2.3, Kidd 3.6, Prigioni 2.2
Assists Per Game – 5.8, Kidd 3.4, Prigioni 6.2
Steals Per Game – Felton 0.3, Kidd 1.6, Prigioni 2.2
Turnovers Per Game – Felton 2.2, Kidd 1.4, Prigioni 2.0

I want to look at what point guards should do first and that is pass the ball to the open man, run the offense and makes the team hard to defend. These 3 guys over the pre-season have dished out 89 assists and only 32 turnovers giving them an outstanding assist to turnover ratio of 2.78. Here is a breakdown of each of the PG’s assist to turnover ratio:

Felton 2.69, Kidd 2.43, Prigioni 3.08

This should encourage all Knick fans for what is to come for the likes of Anthony, JR, Novak, and the rest of the front-court players who will be on the receiving end of these point guard’s passes and penetrations.

Ball movement was one of the biggest concerns for last year’s team; this has definitely been addressed by the acquisitions of these 3 PG’s. If everyone other player on the roster can be as unselfish as these 3 players; by making the extra pass and if the open guys can stick their jump shots more consistently the Knicks could be an outstanding team to watch.

All in all, these 3 guys have been one of the biggest highlights for the Knicks this pre-season and I expect it to get better the more they can gel with the core group.

I would not read a lot from preseason.
Anyone will be better that Baron Davis, Toney Douglas, and Mike Bibby.
When teams will put their premier defenders on them we'll see what our new trio made up of.
They are not looking like scoring threats also, so teams will try to explore this as well as run on them.
Prigs played with scrubs but also against scrubs.
I think this will be more clear 10 games into the season.

On paper they're better because the position was a black hole last year before Lin and Felton and Pablo seem like they won't turn it over as much as Lin. The PG play will also help Chandler more as a pick and roll finisher.

If Felton averages something like 13 and 6 or 7, the Knicks are going to be pretty good.

Kidd isn't really a ball handler at this point in his career. Offensively he's more of a spot up shooter but he's a smart defender and has a high IQ.

I thought we were pretty excited last year with Baron and the thought the back thing was just an excuse for him to get out of Clevelend.

And we bought that pretty good.

Drank that kool aid.

It took a lot longer for him to return.

Point: Knicks sell it. Hate created.

Its ok, knicks go down there's always another team in NY.

oops.

Knick season all depends on PG play. Kidd I think is done at PG spot, I think you will see him more at the SG and SF spots. Felton if is in shape is a very solid PG but it will take him time to get adjusted with our bigs who are PnR bigs. Melo will love him though since one thing Felton does well is setup iso and post plays. Pablo is the key here. If he continues his preseason success then the Knicks will be very successful. There is no in between IMHO. Either Knicks win 50+ games or they miss the playoffs. PG play is key.
