SI likes us:

After being in transition for years, New York entered a full training camp with coach Mike Woodson emphasizing defense around a front line of leaders who are capable of protecting the paint. Health permitting, the Knicks will build their defense around Defensive Player of the Year Tyson Chandler, former Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Camby and Kurt Thomas, who will prove valuable when the playoffs come. Carmelo Anthony is in terrific shape after the Olympics and promised to share the ball with Amar'e Stoudemire, who spent the summer developing his low-post game. Most important is the acquisition of Jason Kidd, who will help fellow point guard Raymond Felton establish a flow to enable Anthony and Stoudemire work in tandem. They'll be seeking to reincarnate the gritty climate of the old Jeff Van Gundy Knicks, and it's an achievable goal.

And his bold prediction:

By way of their seeding in the playoffs, the Knicks will emerge as Miami's surprising challenger in the conference finals.

This is a great analyst. So in order words we must finish as a top 3 seed to get Miami in the ECF. We can still do it as a 6 or 7 seed, but i'm sure everyone would view that as a big-time fail headed into the playoffs. It's top 3 or bust for this team during the regular season!

The first piece on us I've read that doesn't mention Kurt Thomas is 40!

Hope the prediction comes true - this year is going to be tough, but that will make it even more rewarding if we do well.

Sprots Illustrated has been better than Espn on pure reporting for some time. Espn guys seem like little boys with issues who feel they should be catered to and, if you don't you go on their shyt list. Comparing Espn to SI is like comparing Fox News to a real news network.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

If we are a 6-7 seed then we are really positioned as were were last year. That is a struggling roster either by injury or chemistry.

If we contend its becasue we finish 2nd-3rd-4th and are healthy in the stretch.

Need an easy 1st round opponent also.

Anything is possible.

There is no reason why we cant be in the top 3. Chicago doesnt have Rose for a while, I think we have finally ovetaken boston defensively, and both philly/indiana are overrated

Philly is over rated but I would not disrespect them so fast. Evan Turner and Holiday have to stop it up. With Lou Wiliams and Iggy gone they could. If so with other pieces they are a better team.

Indy was a surprise last year. Not so this year but they are a balanced deep roster. Chicago could be a late blooming team and very dangerous. The kind of team that still could be a playoff team without Rose and a nightmare when he comes back, is strong and you get the bulls in 1st round draw.

To win and advanc eyou need some luck!

The Knicks should be really good. If they can say healthy and play defense then they should be top 4 at the very least. Indiana lacks go to scoring which is a problem for them. Philly, other than Bynum, is relying heavily on young players who have not shown they can bring it nightly. Chicago lacks Rose until Jan. 2013 or so. The Nets, Mia. and Bos. should be the Knicks main competition. I think the Knicks roster is superior to Bos. The Nets will need time to gel. Mia is still a juggernaut and will be for a long time.

Of course luck in involved. I mean even the heat had things go their way last year. Philly is not a pushover but they cant be good teams in my opinion. Also Bynum is hurt way too much in his career. Indiana had the easiest playoff round in recent memory. they were playing the magic without dwight

Nice to see a positive article for a change. I agree that the team's overall health could play more of a factor in whether or not the team goes deep in the playoffs than the competition.

It's nice to see the Knicks at the top of any list that doesn't have to do with team age, wasted salary, or least amount of draft picks.

Or dumbest owner.

Finally, some love
