Papabear Says

HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS – It’s awful quiet on the Linsanity front these days.

That might have something to do with the fact the fact that Houston Rockets’ point guard Jeremy Lin isn’t generating the sort of attention most folks are used to from a player who became the global toast of the game last season while starring in New York.

There’s a reason for that, though. Lin, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, is still trying to work his way back from the knee injury that ended his season prematurely:

Though he has not had any setbacks or missed practice time, Jeremy Lin acknowledged on Tuesday that he is still working his way back from last season’s knee injury.

Lin had always maintained that he was 100 percent healthy, though Rockets coach Kevin McHale had often spoke about Lin’s comeback. On Tuesday, Lin said he expected to be at full speed in time for the Oct. 31 opener, but was not there yet and does not expect to play extensively in the preseason opener.

“My speed and my explosiveness and my agility (are not) there yet,” Lin said. “I’m still trying to recover from knee surgery and get to where I was pre-surgery. I probably won’t get to play too much. Hopefully, as the preseason goes on I’ll get to play more and more to build that endurance.”

The Rockets have to have Lin in “pre-surgery” form by Halloween. With the amount of responsibility they have placed on his shoulders and the fact that he is the unquestioned face of the franchise, Lin has to be ready to go.

But it makes the conspiracy theorists among us wonder, did the Knicks know something the Rockets didn’t about Lin and his knee injury when they allowed him to walk in free agency?

Knicks couldnt tell the difference between good medical data or the lyrics from Jimmy's band. I wish Jeremy luck. Thanks for the mosts fun watching Knick games since Ewing, Spree, Allan and Camby were making noise en route to the finals. Short, but fun.

I'm surprised you can even post here - as I am still sick to my stomach that we let this guy walk for nothing. Or, actually for spite and to please Melo

I believe he is still recovering- he might not be the sturdiest athlete out there (See Ralph Sampson)- some guys are just brittle.

And folks claimed he didn't really try to come back after we were down in the play offs to stave off the inevitable.

Watched the scrimmages in the clutch fans forum and Lin was fine. His explosiveness was ok and shot was good. His 2 man game with Asik reminds me of his game with Tyson.

He's not 100% like...

Wade
Chandler
Bogut
Peter Pan
Howard
Rubio
Chris Paul
Shumpert
Derrick Rose
Lowry
Wall

So what conclusion are we trying to draw from this?

Glad the Knicks aren't hanging their hat on an injured player. No matter who that player may be. Not knowing when or if your franchise player will ever return to form is a scary thing. Knock on wood. Wish Lin the best. Wish our players even better.

Too late the Knicks already handed 100 million to Amare and 55 million to Chandler, two very injury prone franchise players.

I thought we should re-sign him, but I'm also worried about his durability. His knee broke down pretty quickly- maybe it was going from nothing to 40mins (D'antoni seemed to over play players here out of desperation), hope its not a degenerative condition.

While this may not be a big deal, there's reason for speculation, pony up 25 mill for a guy who was suppose to be ready after 6 weeks and here were 6 months and he's still struggling..

Carmelo's team. Case closed. Hopefully those guys are healthy. My point is, our MAIN guy isn't hurt, knock on wood.

You mean like when we gave Amar'e a $100mil uninsured contract(no hesitation) considering past injury history and showing early signs of breaking down since giving him a $75mil richer contract?

Come Again?

You mean like when we drafted Gallo there were reports particularly from Nets scouting out of Europe he had back issues, only for him to end up having major back surgery his rookie season?

Come Again?

Are you saying we're trying to learn from past lessons or are you hedging on a hunch?

Ok, understand now, however, I don’t think Houston view Jeremy Lin as a true franchise player, nor do I think they are putting all their eggs in that basket either. Jeremy Lin may be the best player in Houston right now, but so are other fine players (Arron Affalo in Orlando) playing for rebuilding teams. That doesn’t make them franchise players at least not yet.

Have you ever been in sports in your 20's? I used to play all day on concrete. If you get injured it's not simply cuz you played too much at that age. It's just an injury. It can happen at anytime having nothing to do with the amount of minutes you played. Usually it's making some sharp stop or cut that puts an extra stress on your leg in an unusual way. Shump wasn't being overplayed when he got hurt. Did CP3's coach overplay him or D Rose's coach run him into the ground. Did D Wade's coach run him into the ground? Why is Chris Smith hurt already? This is not to say that wear and tear doesn't play a part, but a few more minutes a game isn't usually the cause. I would say that the more aggressive a players style is that increases the chance of injury. All that high speed starting and stopping and sharp cuts can really stress the joints.

Last 18 games:
Felton
14.6pts 46% 7.6ast

Last 18 games:
Lin
15.7pts 42% 7.2ast

I think the knicks made out like bandits swapping Lin for Felts and the season will confirm this........
