No doubt about it--Knicks are players this year in the east--atleast gives us something 2 watch. The NBA title--man if the Lakers don't win--Ill be surprised. They do have some age against them--but like the Knicks age can be nullified a bit by depth and they have it. On paper--I cant see any team--including the Heat who have what it will take to beat the Lakers. Big difference between Bynum and Howard---speed. Lakers should be able to play faster--which is pivotal in today's NBA.

Agreed, there is no reason why we can't be the 2nd seed in the East. Then once playoffs come, who knows.

BRIGGS, i DON't think anyone doubts this team will be good... we were headed this way before any of the big trades.. the key is we need to be championship good, because after this year, we may be looking at some tough times, aging roster, very few picks, no flexibility... not much youth...... but hey, as you said, at least this year we know we will put a good product on the floor, or at least we should...

agreed. we have two years to get past the heat which i think we could do. People forget that we actually competed against the heat until the 4th quarter and that was without half our roster

sure we were.. we were already above .500 why not..

funny how we can make the jump to being contenders after grabbing the 7th seed, but we were not on our way to being a good team with an above .500 record?

feel free to pick and choose which suits your case of course...

I think we have just one year... and we also have to factor in the celts.. jason terry was a HUGE pickup.. HUGE....

some will say the heat was bored playing us and just turned it on when they needed to... I am not sure, but It may have some truth to it....

Well, I say nah, we weren't because prior to the trades the Knicks played no real or consistent defense and were heavily reliant on the 3 ball. You simply can't win in this manner longterm. The team was only two games over .500 and was wildly inconsistent week to week to week.

The team we have now is not reliant on the 3 ball and will play great defense 99% of the time. This in itself will be huge. We saw this during the 18-7 stretch. If we can get Amar'e back to 10-11 play style and hitting the mid-range jumper that will be huge and I think Amar'e will come in able to do this based upon the work he seems to have put in over the summer AND this is a shot he has typically been able to hit with regularity throughout his career.

This season the team needs to win 50+ games and secure a top 3 spot in the East. After the Heat, it is wide open. I know people love to praise the Celts, with good reason, but I do like our roster better than the Celts although I can understand people seeing things differently.

i like our roster but calm down about comparing us to thye celtics. As much as i hate the celtics they have done a great job the last few years and guys like garnett and PP seem forever young the way they still play and rondo is one of the best pg's out there

I stated I like this years team more than the Celts. I also said I'd understand why some would disagree. Simply put, I think the teams are close roster-wise.

We still have a lot to prove. I mean both Amare and melo have a below .500 record together but i think that will change this year

To be clear I don't believe merely being 2 to 6 games over .500 constitutes competing. That is just average or slightly above average, imo. I think this years roster should compete and play at a high level. Anything less is disappointing.

you know, silly as this sounds there is clearly one other way to improve your team (we will see if it works). Thats to add every old guy in the league who has a couple good games left in the tank. Who needs picks and cap space when every player close to 40 sees the Knicks as the place to be.

Of course we are slooooooooooooow.

You got to be planning a loooooooong vacation from the boards with all this **** your talking over the summer...... mostly crying about a very Stat depended team even though you've seen him breaking down over the last year and a half.

You even say you feel like this season could be a very good one, why bitch soooo much right before the year starts???

I mean your as not going to give the hollow " Good game" check in after all of this right??? Right???

tfk--this team has a 2 year window of opportunity and the best year might just be this year. It will become next to impossible to build a legit team in year 3 due to the new CBA. We will be hogtied with the new salary cap rules--player movement will be minimal at best. Its important for the Knicks that Shumpert comes back healthy and we score in the draft next year. We wont be able to dip into mid level exceptions etc.. and the guys we have now--essentially Kid and Camby IMHO will BOTH be shot in year 3 taking up 7+mm. We also have to hope Amare's body can take 2 more full yeasr + playoffs and Im scared that it might now(which would be a colossal disaster) So lets enjoy the Knicks now and see if they can really play well--this might be the best basketball team they have for the next 4-6 years
