Nice. Another option: the next game, they have to wear a bright pink uniform.

Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. A couple of these and no one takes the charge. Will it be dished evenly? That blocking foul (A flagrant one on Chandler against LBJ was disgusting). Will they stick it to the big boys too?

Guarantee you these rules will not apply to LeBron... It's MJ all over again.. He was notorious for carrying the ball at the beginning of his drives and then taking an extra step as if the carry was not advantage enough. At least you were able to actually guard players back then.. now... not so much.

I was going to write this in my original post--how exactly does the PA feel about this? Sometimes when you take a charge--maybe there is a little flopping involved just to protect yourself and make a play. So what is a definitive flop and how can you possibly justify taking 30k for a few plays on a guy? You cant make a rule like this--just let the guys play and let the refs figure it out--has worked for what 70 years?

As long as the league isn't afraid to apply this to the Lebron's, Manu's, and Chris Paul's then hopefully it'll deter floppers. If it's hesitant to fine the stars, then there's no point.

this is not an easy rule to try to enforce. How can a defender take a charge, not flop, and get the official to make the call? Because I suspect the reason players 'flop' is to emphasize the contact that is initiated by the opposing player.

They should have the refs making this call. They should be able to tell when contact is made, and who is the guilty party (offensive player charging, defender hacking, etc)

The game is fast - but there are three officials, and they ought to find a way to do this.

It will be retroactive, not enforced during the game, but afterwards, maybe even days video review after the fact.

Is it considered a flop if you are fouled but you exaggerate the contact? Or only if there was no contact at all?

I think the rule is 'purposefully trying to mislead the ref' or something similar. So I think it's the former. My guess is they will only fine the latter or the PA would sue because if I'd want my reps to get my money back in their shoes

Why not count flops as technical fouls, rather than fines? Doesn't hurt the players' bottom line, but you can bet that the coaches would make sure their starters wouldn't flop. Once you start to take money out of the pockets of players, you're going to have lawsuits.

I Vaguely remember a Champions League game 3 or so years ago between Celtic and Arsenal where an Arse player dived comically, UEFA banned/fined him, and he successfully appealed getting the penalty overturned. That's the risk once you start fining/suspending guys.

I don't like this rule at all. I agree that the flopping takes away from the game but it's also very subjective. This gives the refs the power to make calls on a player they are angry at, if they made even the slightest of flinches. Also, why is this the players fault? They flop and do an acting job. It's called basketball. How about this? How about we fine the refs more and more for actually being dumb enough to fall for some of those calls by reacting to the reaction and not the actual play. Isn't that their job? The stars don't HAVE to get superstar treatment ya know.

The union is most likely filing because the rule will cost players money.
