Iman Shumpert is progressing in his rehabilitation from offseason ACL surgery and could return to the New York Knicks lineup by December, The New York Times reported Sunday. Shumpert tore his ACL in the first round of last season’s playoffs against the Miami Heat.

From the Times’ report:

All signs Saturday suggested that Shumpert’s rehabilitation this off-season has gone well. He will still miss the start of the regular season, but it appears Shumpert could possibly return in December if his recovery is ahead of schedule.

Last week, Shumpert said he hoped to play in December, but that he doesn’t want to come back too early from his injury.

Better to err on the side of caution with ACL injuries, like January or February. Fully healed and in game shape for the stretch run. Plus, adding Shumpert closer to mid-season will feel like adding a player or making a trade even though it's one of our own.

It's never a good idea to come back too soon, but if he's ready, then he should be the one to make the final decision after the doctors have their say so.

Damn sometimes I can't spell worth a damn. I think young players like Shumpert will want to come back early. He should wait until Jan or Feb. Remember he had knee problems all last season. Maybe he was suffering from a slite tear and didn't know it and the whole thing blew out. Iman throws his whole body in the game. He better be 110% before he get out on the court. His future is a stake.

If he's ready early, I'd rather he some extra time working on his shooting rather than play. With Brewer on the roster there's no point in rushing Shump back.

i wouldn't rush him. i think it will actually help him to come back when guys might be a little tired and he could give us a boost going into the playoffs

I hope they have him wait. He is at an age where he could make a full recovery if he is handled correctly.

He should play as soon as he's ready to go "110%"... Pretty straight forward.

I've been watching this injury like a hawk, getting all info I possibly could. The progress he has made is incredible. I would still like to see him wait, even if that means we have to suffer with more of his rap songs.
