They are supposed to be looking for a backup for Amare and Purp was money from the corner. Says they are not interested....likely because he performed so poorly (though injuries might have attributed) last season. I seem to remember the Nets or someone accusing him of dogging it.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

No way, he shined in a knick uni, then took the nets over us, unlike JR who took a massive pay cut to play here..

Novak is parked in his spot on the court. After that, he is an ok player. Novak is better shooter.

Purp will not be coming back. Once you cross Dolan you are forever done to him. He was given the Lin treatment before Lin existed. Both Players are believed to have left the Knicks for more money, after being given a chance by the Knicks. Once you cross Mob boss Dolan there is no turning back.

He didn't cross Dolan, we put him on the back burner (rightfully) so while they worked out other, more important contracts. The Nets offered him more than he has ever been offered so, he took it. No hard feelings....you guys act like Dolan is Satan himself. He isn't great but, lets not just start blaming him for everything. Next he'll be responsible for the unrest in the middle east.

And clearly a much worse defender...Novak is a complete liability in the playoffs...If he isn't draining threes he is useless, he can't get off his own shot...Frankly, I'm surprised at the contract...We have built a playoff roster, If you can't help me in the playoffs then u can't help me...

Well lets give him a opportuntiy to prove this wrong, he said he has been working extremely hard this off season on catching and shooting..I know purp benefited from MDA's system more then NOVAK, and Like I said, he left for more money when we needed him the most..

In Purps defense (I like Novak better) he is/was a good defender. Defended guys bigger than him and did a good job. Hell, cut Chris Smith and his non-guaranteed contract and sign Purp. Can't have too many bigs and you can't have to many shooters. If say, Chandler, Camby or Amare are hurt (or any combination thereof), he'd be very very valuable.

His defense was not all that IMO, avg at best..but I feel you on the perimeter side of things.

I know financially you want look out for your future, but honestly, he's turned into MR. injury prone and we need to stay far as hell from anybody like that..

curious question...why is Shawne (aka "Extra E") called "purp"?...lol
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

And more importantly, why are we talking about a bad foot who spends time not shooting well on the IR?

I was wondering myself why he was called "Purp", so did a quick google search:

In January 2010, Williams was arrested in Memphis on felony drug charges for selling a codeine substance. Williams later pleaded guilty in April to misdemeanor drug possession. He was placed on six months' probation, ordered to undergo mandatory drug testing, attend a drug offender school and make a $10,000 contribution to the Shelby County Drug Treatment Court. His legal situation cleared up quickly.

Because I didn't know that . Seriously, once someone leaves the Knicks, it's like they don't exist for me anymore. I know he fell off last season but, didn't know any more than that.

If it was an injured foot last season, why couldn't he be healed by now? Still I think it would be worth the Garden looking into it at the very least.

that doesn't exactly explain the Knickname. It explains the reason for it but not the name itself

Actually I thought it was a pretty clear explanation.

I mean Purp is short for Purple Drank, and that nickname stuck with Shawne Williams after he was busted selling it...don't know what else it could originate from?
