It's always so hard to judge a player who does a lot of the little things and is a defensive presence more than anything. His numbers don't show his real value, but in the past year he's won a title, won a gold metal as the starting center, and was DPOY. Only other player in NBA history to accomplish all 3 before age 30 was Jordan. It's pretty crazy when you think about it. But i still feel like we don't have a good feel of his real value in comparison to other NBA players. His recent accomplishments say superstar, but i still don't know.
He's a star: top 20 NBA Player, guaranteed all-star this season, top-3 center in the league
He's a notch below/borderline star: still top 30, likely all-star bid this season, top 5 center
He's a great role player, nothing wrong with that: not an all-star, but a top 10 center who will always impact the game in many ways, especially defensively

Notch below All Star. Great defensive player, efficient offensive player, lack of traditional post moves knocks him below elite Center status. Top 30 player just for the intangibles alone for sure.

much of what Chandler brings to the table is hard to quantify. For one thing Chandler has a "presence." Just by signing to become a Knick guys began to take defense more seriously (and that was before he touched the court. He's not going to wow you with his shot blocking but, he often places himself in a position to prevent the shot from even getting off.
His communication skills are excellent and often you can see him imparting his advise on his teammates. The very fact that they seem to listen shows his ability to reach those he speaks to.
Also won't wow you with his rebounding numbers but, numbers don't always tell the tale since, his tap-outs have earned us as many if not more 2nd chances.
He is a leader who leads both, by example as well and being willing to get in your face and hold you accountable. A
I'm sure I could come up with a few more but, I am hungry as hell so, time to go get something to eat :)
the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

I voted - Notch below. Chandler is rare player that makes his team better without being a Star. This is very rare. You have a lot of great defensive players that don't make their team better just their position.

Just below an all-star but very valuable.

What I was going to write.
He is a perfect fit for this team because with Amare and Melo in the 2 forward positions, we don't need another inside scorer. We need a defensive player, and who on offence, can catch and dunk. i.e. Chandler.

he's like Bruce Bowen... invaluable to his team but not one of the first guys picked during a game of pickup

He's not an all-star but he's the type of player championship teams always have on their roster.

Not sure what the answer to this question is, but if I had a nickel for every time I mentioned in emails last season how unbelievable Chandler is, I'd have a lot of nickels.

He's one of those players you just have to watch over the course of a season to really appreciate, because the stats obviously do not do him justice.

That said, tough to be a superstar in the NBA (or any league in any sport) without putting up numbers, but I would call him a star and a top-5 center.

He's a role player that plays his role almost perfectly..too many times I here he needs to up his offensive out put by learning new moves, or increase his jump shot range..

I never heard people said MJ needs to average 10 rebounds or he needs to average 10 assist, why, because he rebounds and assist just enough to be considered an all around player at his position..

Tyson was brought here to take this team to the next level defensively and he's done that. In a league where having an adequate center will do, he's a all star already..He may not score more then hibbert bynum or Howard, but If I got 2 or 3 or 4 bonifide 20 +pt scorers on my roster, why do I need my center to focus on scoring..

Because those scorers get choked up with space issues. He need not be a big scorer but if the defense leaves him alone 15 feet from the basket he needs to hit that shot. If he can, they have to play him. Oak was not a big threat but if left alone he had a decent enough midrange shot to keep defense honest.

Tyson does a lot of things well and brings a nice intangable to the floor with leadershop qualities.

he's absolutely perfect on this team... his strengths are exactly what the Knicks need. His biggest weakness is his shot and the Knicks don't need him to shoot at all... this is the perfect place for him and I really wouldn't want to swap him one for one with any other center. Package Amar'e or Melo with Chandler and then I'd rather have Bynum or Howard or perhaps Anthony Davis long term... but on this particular roster, Chandler is as good as it gets

Andrew Bynum > Tyson Chandler

Tyson Chandler was considered massively overpaid until he landed in Dallas. He helps this team but lets not get carried away.

right. These are the silliest assertions I have seen.

9th in the league in rebounds. 19th per 48 (PURE). You know your basketball.

On D-12's level. Don't sell him short.

If only Bill Russel could have been as good a defender as Tyson Chandler ...

If only Dennis Rodman could have been as good a "pure rebounder" as Mr Chandler ...

If only Tyson Chandler could hit a 10 footer he would be better than Mark Eaton ...
