He and his agent have now made the obvious known, he ain't taking the minimum. Definitely not from us.
This is what happens when you pay a 72yr old point guard $4mil and a 71 1/2yr old center $4mil and a shooting specialist who's sometimes a statue $4mil and a point guard with a beer belly $4mil.
I don't blame K-Mart but I hope he gives us the J.R. Smith discount at the end of the day. We so could use him to shore up our front court
Meanwhile teams like the Clippers/Nets are cleaning up signing Min guys. Players pretty much only want to play here to get paid or the fame, nothing has changed until we change.
You realise we were over the cap? So according to you we shouldn't of signed Camby, Kidd or Felton (they wouldn't have taken the minimum) so that we would still be over the cap and unable to sign k-mart? That doesn't even make sense.
And what clipper players do you crave? Injury prone problem guy matt Barnes? You want josh Childress from the nets?!
It makes perfect sense what I'm saying
We always pay the maximum of what a player is asking for or what the market could suggest. It almost never happens we sign players to reasonable fair deals, instead we go over the top every single chance we get, except when we don't want to sign young players or extend them
We gave Amar'e $100mil in Free Agency all of what he wanted and what he could get. Like almost $30mil more than what Phx was willing to pay
We gave Melo an $85mil extension all of what he wanted and what he could get
We gave Chandler $58mil which may have been around $5mil less what GSW offered, but it's once again the richest contract Chandler has ever made in his entire NBA career
We gave Novak not a 3yr deal or 2yr deal no a 4yr deal and more money than he's ever made in his entire NBA career put together
We gave Felton not a 1 or 2yr deal(with second yr as a PO) no we gave him 3yrs and this is after signing him on a 2yr deal 2yrs prior to at $13.5mil once again more money than what Charlotte was willing to give him
We gave Kidd all of what Dallas was offering 3yrs $9-10mil
We gave Camby all of what he wanted 3yrs $13-15mil
We gave Chris Duhon a 2yr deal for $11.5mil when Orlando was only going to pay him 2yrs $7.5mil
We gave Curry and Crawford $60mil contracts 6yrs in length, without conditions
J.R. Smith probably wants nothing more than for this year to be over so he can sign for 4yrs max of whatever he can make
See the trend here? The only positives is that Camby's deal isn't fully guaranteed, but he gets $10mil of the $13.2mil as a guarantee. That's it!
So he's making $5mil per for 2yrs. Start naming how many 40yr olds are currently making $5mil/yr or who have made this much at that age any period of time in the NBA. The names should be rolling off your tongue rapidly.
Then add the fact the salaries we're paying on the latter signings come with Tax implications, which means we're paying even more above the norm on a yearly salary for them. In Camby's case we're also paying Toney's Douglas salary with trade executed and other assets given up. TROLOL you add it up, it's as if Camby didn't take a hit in asset value compared to his last year $8.5mil salary in Portland. For Seriously for a 40yr old?
And I don't want to hear you have to pay to get or keep talent. If that's the case why did Duncan/Dirk/Love/Parker/Ginobli/Garnett/Pierce/Rondo/Horford/Noah/Aldridge take less for their respective teams..... and for most of these guys all they did was win at the highest levels or had instant impact on their franchises once they showed up.
