I had trouble copying and pasting this. There is some great info in there about how the Bayhawks could retain Taylor's rights if the Knicks invite him to camp and cut him.

Tony Taylor Jr. To Work Out For Knicks Again Next Week

While Amar'e Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler took to the Big Apple earlier to model the Knicks' new jerseys for the 2012-13 season, there's a young point guard who still dreams about donning orange and blue in the distant future.

At the end of August, KnicksJournal.com reported exclusively that GWU standout Tony Taylor Jr. had worked out for the Knicks. After having worked out for the Celtics just last week, Taylor Jr. will be back in Westchester yet again.

The Sleepy Hollow native will work out once more for the Knicks next week. Though the team appears stacked at point guard with Jason Kidd, Raymond Felton, and Pablo Prigioni all joining the squad for next season, there's an added benefit of nevertheless still inviting Taylor Jr. to veterans's camp.

As previously mentioned in our report, if and when an NBA team invites a prospect to camp, they then exclusively reserve the said player for their own D-League affiliate. If the Knicks were to invite Taylor Jr. to camp, the Erie Bayhawks would be the only minor league squad able to sign him.

Even if the Knicks (or any NBA team, for that matter) cuts a prospect following camp, the D-League affiliate still owns the right to sign him. With three veteran point guards already on board, the most New York could be targeting Taylor Jr. for would be something down the road. Nevertheless, to keep the guard waiting in the wings, a camp invite is absolutely necessary.

Should no NBA team invite Taylor Jr. to camp, he would then be eligible for the D-League Draft, where any minor league squad can select him. Inviting him to camp is the only the way the Knicks would be able to shield the GWU alum from the draft, thus saving him for the Bayhawks.

Think he deserves a spot over Chris Smith for sure.

More importantly, Kidd/Pablo would have a mentor to absorb their knowledge of their game before their bodies break down.

I think James White is a complete waste of a roster spot from what I saw of him on the summer league, not impressed at all, would cut ties even though his contract is guaranteed.
Would give him them all training camp invites and let White show if was just severely out of shape.
Then decide who makes the 15 man roster from there.....

I was impressed with Tony Taylor's highlights, with his ability to quickness/speed/athleticism, ability to penetrate, finish, and hit the 3pointer.

Since Kidd is not a penetration threat at all and Pablo is barely one, I think it would make sense to have someone other than Felton that has the ability to do so till Iman returns.

I agree that White looked horrible in the dl. The Knicks do have good euro scouts so maybe there is something there. I also agree about smith but that may have been pay back to jr. IS copeland or white's contract guaranteed? Copeland looked a lot better but I think he might just have a camp invite.

Copeland looked the best among those 3, but I can't say if he is even any better than Adam Morrison.
So while he would be cheaper, I am not sure how high his ceiling and fit would be.
Is he any better than a player like Anthony Tolliver, who still isn't signed yet but seems to want more than the vet min...

I would not be upset at Copeland getting a spot, while his contract is not guaranteed, not exactly sure how it is structured though.
But I would like to get a better look at them during training camp to decide.

As for Chris Smith and James White, I do not think they deserve a spot, and I would not look to give them another shot with all the FA still available AFTER training camp, if they still look like trash.
Get as many players that we think would help us and improve our team/roster with training camp invites and let them fight it out.
Let Woody, Grunweld, management, and the office figure it out from there.
Just because White has a guaranteed contract doesn't mean we shouldn't cut our losses with a vet min salary with the talent still available on the market and the positions we still lack.

So i believe we actually have 2 roster spots because Chris Smith and Copeland's contract are not guaranteed.
I am just saying, James White did not look like he was NBA material during The Summer League, he looked like a totally different player on his youtube highlight's, especially the Italian League Dunk Contest.
"The Flight" might have been out of shape and the scouts in Europe could be right or wrong, and by training camp, they all have to figure it out but have a backup plan ready because roster spots can be still be filled. We do not have many versatile players on our roster and have Iman holding one spot down while he is nursing himself back to health...

Yeah but brewers injury might necessitate white not being cut.

I am saying it should the complete opposite for the same reason that Brewer is out

IF

Because we only have Felton, JR Smith, Kidd, and then White to play the PG/SG positions to be a defensive presence. Pablo surely is not going to be a good defender.

James White still did not take the time to get in shape since his poor performance during the Summer League.
He looked like a complete different player from the athleticism we saw form his Dunk Contest, I can give him a pass for the Summer League
but
If he still did not take the time to get in shape, he has Eddy Curry Syndrome, and we just don't have the flexibility to baby sit him at the age of about 30, he is about peaked out already physically.
Either he was out of shape, hurt/injured/age for loss of physical abilities, or just isn't very good.
Whatever the reason, I don't care, no excuses if he didn't prepare himself since he got a taste of being a non factor with Summer League production.

By training camp, if he is still out of shape, or if he really just in not very good, we need to utilize our roster spot much better, since out of 15 roster spots, 2 now will NOT be ready to contribute by the start of the season. It would be unacceptable by any means, just cut our loss, and utilize our roster spot with a vet that can contribute or a younger play with heart and potential to grow.
