There is no way we can get anybody good, we don't have a 1st round pick this year.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

well #1 we almost had the spurs pick, so apparently isiah does want back in the draft

#2 every team that has won the championship in the past 25 years has a core player acquired by the team in the draft.

# 3 I can give you dozens of examples of great players who were selected below 15 and well into the 2nd round including franchise players. Now with the European influx and HS kids, the drafts should remain rich in talent.

#4 I don't think this team is even close to a championship team, which in the nBA means you aren't winning anything next year either. It's a process and we are near the bottom despite outspending other teams 2-1 a HUGE competetive advantage. So the team has to scout the entire draft 1-75 because it's a necessary precursor to acquire talent.

I dont think with the Euros and HS kids the drafts are much deeper, but they are harder to scout, and you have a much better chance of getting a bigtime player later in the draft, when in the past it was unusual that anything below 5 was franchise caliber.

The Malik Rose and Kurt Thomas has played I almost with that trade did go down. Malik would be cheaper (and is playing MUCH better) and we would have a #1 (albeit low) to work with. Water under the bridge.

A do agree Isiah wants in this draft.. expect to see Frank and maybe a couple expiriing contracts for one bad contract or "better fit" player and a pick.

well thats the whole gig. you are going to get something like a 1/3 split of CBB HSers and foreign players. thats why that malik rose trade looked good after they signed kT to an extension. i would much rather have malik and that pick and I hope that even though he signed that extension---that we can revisit that road. with so many unkowns taken--you can really clean up in the draft--guys like arenas boozer josh howard randolph et al being picked late and into the 2nd round is going to be a staple of the drafting ssytem. the draft has become like a futures draft in the stock market--you are betting ahead with more unkown rather than going by a more proven commodity. The draft is a very important piece of the puzle--hopefully each year you can find 1 guy who can atleast make the roster for the future. If you are successful in the draft late--finding Boozer's arenas's --maybe lampe's then you can keep a player pipeline. Im not in agreement with isiah on that issue. I believe if a talent is really worthy, he doesnt have to produce year 1-2 etc... i think we have done well with sweetney although i expected more from the start. i think that if we kept lampe and he basically sat on the bench for a year or two getting much stronger and learning the NBA game, you could possibly have a high lottery pick for pick 30. You just have to be patient with 1-2 slots out of your 15.

Just look at washington. Pretty soon they will have a very nice young core peak out with Hughes arenas Brown etan thomas dixon and then sprinkle in stackhouse another fA and a high draft pick and that team will only get better

if you look at that club next year-lets say they move thomas to the starting 5

Etan Thomas 6-9 255
Kwame Brown 6-11 245
Stackhouse 6-6 230
Hughes 6-5 200
Arenas 6-3 200
then you have the first round pick
Jefferies
Dixon
hayes
a nice free agent that team is going to gell next year IMHO if they stay clear of their injury woes. thats a team that will not only go to the playoffs every year once they get going, but they may have the inside outside talent--imagine if they get ok$ or one of those 7-3 lithuanian Cs--to compete for the whole migjig.

its tough to say.. I would say point blank the team with the most talent right now is the Clippers, but they are too young and dont know how to win.

Briggs, Isiah's knock on Lampe was he wasnt taking care of his body. I didnt like that part of the trade either, but I also dont believe he was just a throw in and we could have kept him.

You also cant expect to get an Arenas, Boozer or Zach every year in the draft, but you can draft every year and hope you get one of those. Getting just one cant change the direction of your franchise. Also we can afford to give guys 3 year deals to insure Bird rights, even if we have to cut them later and eat the $$$

Our main problem is we simply have a glut of contracts going into next year. I think Moochie probably gets bought out, but you want to keep Harrinton, Deke and Ski because those ending deals can be gold come the deadline.

The worst thing Layden did to us was buy out Travis. If he had his expiring deal Raweed might be a Knick right now.
