Knicks are 52-30. Tough division not going to make it easy. This is my optomistic view. The potential (as with all teams) injury for Amare and Tyson to miss stretches is more the historical norm.

Melo this season will be under a lot of pressure. He wanted to be here, wanted to get paid, got his coach and this is now HIS team!

I don't doubt Melo's talent and the work it takes to play like that. He has managed to do a good job elevating his more mature image off the court. On court he is so very talented and puts up great stats. The only "flaw" I would question is his intensity and the true desire to win. Was the move to NY about knicks "winning a championship" or elevating his brand. His brand has been elevated. He has succeeded very much here.

I have never been a big fan of his in Denver but I do find him likable as a knick and respect that on court talent. He has star power, handsome and a great smile. Great things for MSG and the Knick brand. All the things a Starphucher would ever want in a player.

Obsessive hyper thread attention whore participants in the UK want to win. I don't think he is of the same DNA as a franchise player like Lebron or Jordan but more like Bird talent wise. Bird needed talent around him. Bird was a SOB nasty guy who had a strong intense need to win. He also made other players around him better. Melo has Bird like talent but the intangable nastiness that makde him a "winner" In the NBA. On Syracuse he was the best player on the team but a team that had Jerry McNamara playing out of his mind also.

I think Amare actually has a stronger drive. AMare has battled many obsticles in his life. A crack head mother, two major injuries, and a devistating personal loss. He has shown a great deal of character in his young life. He has bounced back a few times in his career. I was impressed when he rested the back, lost the weight and did return quicker.

Don't get me wrong, Melo is a very successful very wealthy young man and not a bad guy at all.

I think dolan could have used his trade assets in other ways that might produce a longer term higher ceiling result. Moving on we can hope the current collection of talent we have succeeds in being healthy for a two yer run, have some luck in terms of matchups, injury, fights, family matters and the chemistry of a group of guys doing something special.

Miami was on a mission the last two years. IT took personal growth and a very strong desire to get it done. They did it in part with BOsh out for nearly two series. Wade played hurt and lebron played like a god.

When Melo mailed it in because he was not down with MDA's scheme that did not enhance his starpower it does not impress me the winning is his priority. Im not saying MDA is a championship caliber coach but his offensive design is valid But for what ever reason Melo pushed back (well discussed topic on the UK).

18-6 was evident he can play at first team all star levels (short sample) but he alone could not counter what Miami threw at us. It was not even close and we did crumble under the weight. Literally our legs gave out! (Baron and Shump)

Melo got his coach. If Lin was not condusive to Melo its not a concern now. He is not back. We have ball distributers at the PG. He has everything he needs to succed.

Like most of you was are interested in this season as it represents the most complete roster in the Melo era and on paper maybe the best front line in the east. A lot is on him. I hope he can carry the load!

52 wins. Not bad when you consider we have Boston, Philly, Brooklyn and Washington in the division.

49-33
I wish we hadn't lost Lin but Grunwald has added some very good players. They're old and injuries could easily make the team struggle, especially an injury to Tyson.

Between 48 and 50 wins and a loss in the second round of the playoffs. I also predict Amare, Kidd, Camby, and Chandler to miss at least 60 games combined due to injury and Felton won't come close to the numbers be put up under MDA.
Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

50 wins.

I fear that Amare and Tyson will spend significant time on IR. If this team remains healthy, look out!

48 lose to celtics in 2nd round. Not enough shooting and scoring punch to go deep in the playoffs with this team.

Also still need to see if melo and amare works before putting the knicks ahead of boston and indy

54 wins. Win Atlantic. Knicks top 3 defensive team. Face Heat in ECF's.

I don't really see the kind of problems we've had in the past creeping up on this team this year. I think they've got some experience together which is key. They've added more depth and experience to the rotation. While the competition in the East has gotten much stiffer, I still think this team has the Stars you need in addition to a really good group of defensive players to put them over the top. Woody and Glen are in sync and the players seem happy as well. When you compare starting last year with TD as the starting PG and practically no one backing him up. It's night and day different this year. I feel the strongest about this team that i've felt in more than a decade.

55 wins and a first round loss to the Bulls.

Knicks play well, but Chicago or Celtics are lower seeds because of Rose or KG missing a bunch of time, come back healthy and Knicks get beat in round one. Melo will put up some good numbers but get outplayed in crunch time by Paul Pierce or somebody else and MrKnickshot blames Amare's 7 rebounds as the reason we lost.

God I hope Im wrong but thats the level of apathy a once passionate Knick fan has for this team.

The 1992-93 Knicks had seven new players and they still won 60 games. Unfortunately they faced a BBall dynasty in the Bulls. I think they have a good chance of making the ECF, even with all the new players. It depends on where they finish, who they draw, and injuries of course.

Just guessing, but I think this team will have great chemistry. I don't believe anyone is going to make a stink about their role this season. Older vets like Kidd, and Prigioni are happy to be in NY, same goes for Camby (who past up the Heat to play in NY) and KT.

Felton is real glad to be back and I don't see him forcing the issue as much this time around. Already working with Novak. JR Smith is a wildcard which can be either good or bad.

great post by Nalod, very well said/written...
I agree, our window is short, possibly only 2-3 years.

There are many "Wild Cards" this season for the Knicks but I think one would be the most important for our chances in play offs.
I believe Iman Shumpert, is the most important one for the team when he is back.
Whether he can get healthy, improve from where he left off, and continue to develop with our core.

He will become the apprentice of Kidd/Pablo with the Robin of Felton/Brewer/Camby/Tyson on defense
Other than Felton, only Iman, if healthy, has the ability to penetrate to break down defenses and finish off the dribble.
Whether he can ever become a PG, or at least, be a better SG/combo guard with better PG skills in facilitating, leadership, and of course his LOCK DOWN potential at the PG/SG spot.

Felton plays his best with 4 shooters on the floor for better spacing, in an uptempo offense.
Again, I think Melo would be much more effective playing the PF for himself, the team, and building on an identity.
It would allow Melo and the rest of the team to play off each other much better.
Amare isn't that stretch 4, hopefully is able to execute his lessons of Hakeem, and improves his defense/rebounding/shot blocking/boxing out.
I hope if we continue to show the poor execution/spacing as last year, Amare would be used in the 2nd unit for the benefit of the team.

Knicks are improved much on paper but I think we have to see how Woodson impliments his philosophy and how the team gels before giving them too much credit of 52+ wins and a Eastern Conference Finals appearance.
I am not saying they cannot do it, but rather saying it is more optimistic thinking.
Just like how many of us, including me, thought we were much improved last season with Tyson Chandler/Iman/Jorts etc....

I think we will miss much of what Jeffries brings with his defense/length/versatility/quick feet on DEF and has still not been replaced.
His man on man defense, team defense, unselfishness, and TEAM first mentality cannot be measured by STATS.
Chandler/Camby are both players that anchors our defense, but we are missing a forward that makes it difficult for the Bosh/Dirks/KG/Gasols/Love/Ibaka and biggs that have range that have the ability to go inside/out.

We also still do not have a Lebron stopper as well, Brewer is needed to stop the 2nd tier like Wade, probably the only one that can give Wade a problem posting up 1v1.
Having a Jeffries, allows us to defend Lebron much better with Tyson/Camby behind him.

Anthony Tolliver and James Singleton, are 2 players that can bring similar skills to what Jeffries brought for us.
Kenyon Martin and Sean Williams would be my next choices.

I think that a glue player/role player like that is very crucial.
It can significantly improve our defense/rebounding/hustle, build on a philosophy/identity that we have been missing, and would make us a top 5 defensive team in the league.
It isn't a question about the talent, rather getting the TEAM to play at it's highest level/production/ and creating that IDENTITY that we have lacked for many years since JVG left...

I have to pick, my prediction for the current squad is 48-34, depending on play off seeding anywhere from a 1st round exit to a ECF appearance.
If Iman comes back healthy/continues to improve and our aged VETs can still can contribute at their age, our best shot would be the following season, in 2013-14.
With a mini MLE acquisition and a few trades and upgrades...

If we can add a players Brandon Rush or/and JJ Barea this season during the deadline, it would change my predictions and say we have a legit shot at going to the finals.

51-31 ECF then anything could happen. Knicks are due for some good health in the playoffs.

51-31, 2nd in Atlantic, 3rd in the East.

Lose in 2nd round of playoffs to Boston.

There will be at least two time we are screaming Dolan's name in a fit of rage before April.

Felton will feel very "powerful" to start the season but will be looking good (and thinner) by midseason.

We have a ton of different starting lineups due to injuries.

Lin has a mediocre season and we stop complaining that he's gone.

Harrellson joins Miami and plays a significant role and we cry a little inside.

Anthony tries the entire season and has one of his best seasons, especially when he plays at the 4.

Amar'e has his last good season.

JR Smith gets fined twice for things he posts on twitter.

And lastly, the playoffs look a lot less rigged than they did last year.

Team should be good, but something tells me will underachieve.
45-48 wins and second round exit.

I see the Knicks winning around 54 games which would be a stark improvement.
