Good old off-season. How I hate it.

With our new average age of almost retired, how would you guys describe our team's identity this upcoming season?

I'm thinking/hoping for a mix of intelligent Spurs-ish play, some semi boneheaded Melo iso play, some 2010 Felton-Amare connection and a twist of some Thibodeau defense.

Someone pointed out in another thread that we're similar to the Bulls in our dependability on one guy to carry our offense, which is a good point. Hopefully STAT shows up this year.

I can't believe how much I missed a non lockout offseason last year. The Knicks were so limited by their roster and cap in the moves that they could make that I expected nothing. Smith, Novak, Camby, Kidd, Thomas, Felton, brought back or added was a huge offseason for the Knicks in my opinion. I think minimizing the role of Camby and Kidd is a big mistake. The Knicks got older but the young guys they lost, Jordan, Douglas and Jorts was limited and probably over valued by the fan base. Both Fields and Lin were lost to the new cba. Lin to a freak clause that instead of helping teams retain their players makes it so restrictive that they can't. I think Grunwald and the Knicks had a great offseason. I think the Lin loss was a harsh reality of the new cba but I think Grunwald rebounded with the Felton acquisition. I am anxious to see how Pablo, Copeland and White turn out. I am hoping that the Knicks scouts did as well as they have in the past with second round picks and free agents. Maybe there is another guy in that group that becomes a good player for the Knicks or destroys a rebuilding teams cap with a horrific contract offer in the future.

The age factor is the biggest concern and could be a major one. Other then that the team could be very strong defensively. Offensively is a question mark how they will play together, but if Amare develops a post game then we could attack teams in different ways on paper. Fast breaks will always be there as we will get a lot of turn overs and blocks with our roster. Pick and Roll is always an option with Kidd, Felton Tyson, Camby, Amare. Iso's with Melo and post ups with Amare or Melo at the 4. The best bet would be to play matchups and attack teams weaknesses.

If we do we'll be .500

Defense will be better but really think with a front line of Tyson-Amare and Melo we going to strike fear in the paint?

That era was about Starks, Mase and Oak being emotional and intense. Amare I doubt turns into a stopper and Melo smiles too much.

Tyson is the lone defender but not the tough guy fighter.

Besides in todays NBA you sneer the wrong way you get t'd up.

The age thing is being over stated this offseason. Our main players are in their primes- late 20s, 30- Amar'e, Melo, Tyson, Felton, JR, Brewer, Novak. We have 3 old players, only 2 of which will play much and they're nope 20min back ups. Kurt won't get many minutes. Don't really get why we're considered an old team just because of 2 back ups.

Whoever made the comparison to the Bulls of the last 3 years is spot on..only I think we have better offensive talent and pieces. I expect a lot of blow out of scrub teams. Disciplined Defensive teams rarely lay duds vs. scrub teams. the last 24 games under Woodson is a fare indication of where the team will be this season. Consistency.

I expect a focused intense defense that will wreck havoc and an offense that will be very sloppy but potentially explosive and exciting.

I compared us to the Bulls team that lost to Miami in the ECF. I think we're better.

That makes sense-

If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

+1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

Thank you for saying this. I have been screaming this all offseason -- just because we got a couple of "old" rotation players does not make us an old team.

Now, if we had gotten Kidd to be the starting PG and Camby the starting center, then OK, you can say we're old. But as you point out, we got them to come off the bench. Our main players are all in their prime, as well as some key bench guys. People love to pick on the Knicks, so as soon as they got Camby and Kidd, it was easy to say we gold old, not better.

Whatever. I could care less what the critics say. I follow this team pretty closely, and I like the offseason we had.

True but at trhe same time those 40 yr old are the difference between us competing for a ship or a 2nd rd exit. If they end up being Baron Davis/Mike Bibby type failures for us then that severely hurts our chances. But if they both play very well for there 20mins or so that they will get then they bring us to another level. They both could be amazing for us.

I'm not overly concerned with Camby. I don't see any reason why he can't give us 20 minutes a game with the same production that he provided in Portland/Houston. Kidd looked a bit beat last year but I think it may have more to do with the condensed schedule than it is him being done. Not concerned about KT at all....don't think he's going to get much run.
