Which Trades in Knicks history were you brutally wrong about?

What past moves did you think were either great, okay or terrible at the time, but were soon proved to be completely wrong by reality?

My most embarrassing ones are all based in the IT era- I thought the Eddy Curry trade was great at the time- I thought we'd got a dominant centre and that BRIGGS was being ridiculously hysterical by fretting about the lack of protection on the picks! In my mind it was irrelevant as we'd be so good, no protection was needed! (sorry BRIGGS!)

Also my reaction to the Zach Randolph trade was pretty much the same as Marburys! Honestly, I think I must have been smoking crack during the IT era...

On the other side, I hated the Oakley for Camby trade for months- I couldn't believe we got rid of Oakley, while I thought Camby was a soft weakling who could never play Knicks ball- he even missed games for an ingrown toe nail. Those 1999 playoffs were an awesome way for me to be proved wrong though.

No contest. Stephon Marbury. Thought a homecoming would change his perception, make him a better man on and off the court, help the Knicks reclaim some glory. Boy was I dead wrong!

I remember thinking Charles Smith and Doc Rivers were worth giving up Mark Jackson and a 1st Rounder for. If only we had traded Greg Anthony instead and kept Xavier McDaniel, I wonder if 92-93 would have been better. Probably not much, as Jordan and the Bulls might have still won, but I do think Mark Jackson would have been more beneficial down the line than Charles "4 Tries" Smith and Patient Rivers.

Yep, I thought that too- I was so excited that after years of having scrubs, we finally had an elite point guard!

I liked Rivers and Jackson was a weak defender which the Knicks brass/coaches did not like.

I was dead wrong about McDyess

And, I thought we were wrong for trading Lempe

I thought he'd be ok here even though I dispised the starphuch treatment we gave him and Isiah.
Could not have imagined what a total disaster it became!

I was also hacked off that we traded Anthony Mason for LJ. I was convinced LJs stats a performance that regular season proved me right- in fact a lot of people were saying the Hornets won that trade due to How Mase was playing for them. Then LJ whooped their ass in the playoffs and went to become one of my favourite Knicks over the years. His stats never really showed his value.

I talked myself into the McDyess deal big time. I thought that was going to be awesome, and if the Knicks were going to give up what they gave up he must've fully recovered.

I was excited about the Marbury deal but then I heard Layden actually put that deal together and Isiah Thomas walked in and said "let's do it!" I was excited but skeptical.

I was inconsolable after the Oakley for Camby trade because Oakley was the personality of the team- but that move made so much basketball sense and kept us competetive for another couple of years.

I also was ok with the McDyess trade because Camby was always injured (and I wasnt sure he'd ever be healthy), and McDyess at the time a 20 and 12 sort. That trade was of course the beginning of the end.

Marbury for sure. I was thinking that at last we had one of the best if not the best PG in the league.

I remeber being ambivalent about the Ewing trade. I didn't want to give him up but thought it would work out ok with a three headed monster of Spree, Houston and RIce.

I was way off on curry, and Marbury. I thought the Knicks stole mo Taylor from the rockets. When they first happened I hated the Spree and camby trades. I am still not sure about L J for Mase.

I was wrong being in favor of many trades because on paper they made sense. Getting Marbury, Curry, and McDyess made sense at the time in my opinion. I absolutely hated trading Nazr Mohammed (who was a quality starting center at the time) for Malik Rose and draft picks. I knew they were going to be low picks, but one of those low picks turned into David Lee, so the outcome of the trade one of the the best in our favor in the past many years.

Ditto. I had no idea of the horrors that were in store for us.

When we traded oak for camby...I thought we were idiots...boy did camby turn that around...I hated him in toronto

I'll join in the chorus, I thought the Marbury trade was great. We were getting a guy who averaged 20 and 8 for, like, 5 years in a row and he was still only 26 or 27. Sure, he had a bad attitude but coming home to play for his favorite team should clear those problems up.

As for our other major trades since Mase for LJ I pretty much hated them all except for Camby, Spre, and Curry. But, in Curry's case, I was at work when it happened and didn't realize there was no lottery protection on those picks. Then I hated it.
