Recall years ago reading up on Laydens struggle with two of his children that had some real bad medical problems and the demands of family and being an NBA executive was tough. It humanizes the guys beyond Howard Eisley's contract or Signing FatSpoon.

Of course When Isiah came on board we got to hear all the stories about his mother Mary and how tough it was for Isiah as a kid. It helped to root for Isiah when you hear stories.

Donnie had a few stories about his health and how his wife stayed behind in Indy cuz she had all her friends and family there.

It humanizes these guys when we know a bit about them. The gag order Dolan has really limits any knowledge about things at One penn plaza.

Im not asking anyone to read this article on Billy King http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/12/magazine/the-new-net-worth.html?_r=1&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss I came across in the NY Times (yeah, I read it) and was thinking it would be cool to know more about Grunwald I remember reading how in toronto he did a lot work with the city.

Via Wikipedia:

Grunwald later became the President and CEO of the Toronto Board of Trade, the largest local business organization in Canada, and is heavily involved in both the business and social communities of Toronto. In addition to his work at the Board of Trade, he sits on the Board of Governors at George Brown College, the Board of Directors at the Greater Toronto Marketing Alliance, and the Board of the Toronto City Summit Alliance. He is further involved with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, as well as Canada Basketball.[citation needed]
An accomplished speaker, Mr. Grunwald has addressed a wide range of organizations including the Rotary Club, the Canadian Property Tax Association, the Toronto Industry Network, the American Business Awards, and the Canadian Society of Club Managers.[citation needed]
[edit]

I googled him after the reading the piece on Billy King and found little more than what was written a few years ago which leaves me to think the propaganda gag order is pretty much intact which is a shame as some of our guys might be pretty interesting. I thought Grunwald had a good back ground and while many were bashing him for the Toronto job I thought this was a guy who learned well from it and other business interests make him more rounded.

Grunny is doing a very good job given the dynamics of working for Dolan and MSG.

The piece on Billy King I thought was pretty good and was thinking Grunwald would be an interesting interview too. Better than reading him hiding in the closet.

If anyone comes across a good piece written about him I'd hope you can share it. We know the insecure "Wizard of Oz" that is Dolan does not speak for himself and seems he does not like anyone to eclipse his stature as well. I recognize N**ts are the flavor of the month in the media and will be for a while but it would serve the knicks well to interface with the community as well and not let Nets get too much spotlight.

We tend to root for the guys we are familiar with!

Because its obviously an advertisement to fall in love with Nets GM Billy King, masquerading as being about us not knowing much about Grunwald. Nalod seems to have developed an obsession with turning these Boards into some sort of Knicks-Nets Hybrid, more in tune with his own position.

This is the second or third thread he's created where it's actually been more about the Nets. I don't mean this disrespectfully, but you have been quiet on the issue when a few posters complained, so I guess I'm wondering what the official line is- are these boards and this site becoming more Net-tolerant and are more pro Net threads okay now theyre in Brooklyn, or is it just because it's the offseason, or do you take a hands off approach and leave it all up to us to post whatever we like?

I think we'd all benefit from a bit of clarification.

This is a Knicks board and it is offseason, so lots of stuff gets posted here that's OT. Nets just moved to NY so it's prob gotten more than it's fair share, but so what.

My take was this thread was a little bit about our GM framed in a way regarding an article about Billy King.

If anyone is overly sensitive about some Nets stuff coming up in this forum, please skip the thread. When NBA season gets going, we'll be moving that stuff off to NBA/OT more regularly.

Also, if you don't want the threads to be so heavily dominated by Nets mentions, why did you immediately post about the Nets directly? That's on you.

Fair enough, I don't mind so much if it's just a flash in the pan or offseason thing, I'd just hate to see it become a permanent feature on these boards going forward. I saw his threads first post as being more about Billy King, while pretending to be about Grunwald ( which to be honest it was!) to make it seem more acceptable.

I am overly sensitive about the Nets because they have three players I intensely dislike (Lopez, Deron and Humphries), and the players, ownership, GM etc have been talking a load of trash about the Knicks this offseason. Can't wait to play them!

They are actively trying to turn Knick fans into Net fans (obviously), and I guess I don't think these boards should be a part of that.

Oh and back on topic- Grunwald has a weird air about him that makes you not really interested in learning anything about him- he's the definitive background man, which is why Dolan likes him. He gets the job done, but in a low key, annonymous way.

I agree that Grunny is a perfect GM for totalitarian system MSG is.
Kind of Laiden clone. Isiah was a bit overboard and created drama just by his presence alone.
Donny was complitely out of sync with the system. Never understood why he get into this Gulag place...

There is nothing better for NY bball than a Knicks Nets rivalry. Bring it on - NY has 2 competitive teams lets allow the games decide who is king of NY.

Donnie was romanced by the Comish, the lure of big money and the romantic notion of coming home to fix the Knicks!

Silly rabbit!

It's nice to see some positivity for our GM. He has a tough job in this environment and I agree with Nalod that he's handled it pretty well.
FIX THE KNICKS / AND MAKE THEM SHINE / GET ’EM TO WIN LIKE ITS ’69 / HITTIN’ ALL THEIR FREE THROWS / AND NO MORE SHOOTING BRICKS / TIME TO GET IT RIGHT / AND FIX THE KNICKS
