Injuries at the wrong time have been a big factor of why we have struggled getting out of the first round the past two seasons. Also our frontcourt hasnt had chemistry yet. This offseason both Melo/Tyson are keeping in good shape by playing in London and Amare is working on improving different aspects of his game so those are all good signs. The important thing now is to get shump healthy because both shump and brewer will make our perimeter defense really good. Like I said ther are a lot of "what ifs" but if we have good luck for a change i really dont see who can beat us outside of maybe the heat

Woodson has to do a good job of pacing this team...it's a long season...we need to be strong by the playoffs. they all don't have to play all 82 games. take a page from Pop on the Spurs.

Luckily our depth will allow us to do that. Once Shumpert returns, a second unit of Kidd, Smith, Brewer, Novak, and Camby will allow us to rest our starting lineup and keep their minutes down. We also have Prigioni and Thomas to play some minutes in the 2nd unit if someone needs to sit out games for injury or fatique.

I don't get why they would all of a sudden gel. Melo occasionally hits Tyson for an easy bucket but Amare is lost on the weakside while Melo handles the rock. There is no 2 man game with Melo and Amare. The guys who need to gel are Felton, Amare, and Tyson so they can run some pick n rolls. Melo and Amare's jumpers better really be on point and Amare better regain some of his explosiveness. It's less about chemistry and more about individual performance with this group.

What does "go far" mean? There are three super teams. We ain't one of them. I think we can be in the next group of 5 or 6 teams. So, best case, unless there are some serious injuries, we take Miami to 6 or 7 in the east finals. That would be great progress and the Garden would be nuts, but it's ultimately not all that satisfying. This is why I hated losing Lin. He game us a higher upside -- even if greater risk to got with it.

While I agree with your prediction, Lin was not getting us past Miami.

I share a lot of those same sentiments. We are a step above the Atlanta Hawks. By that I mean we can maybe get out of the 1st & 2nd round at least once in the next 3yrs and reach the ECF and eventually lose to the Heat.

Even in the Jordan years I felt the Knicks were closer to a championship because they were so tough in the playoffs. Just had to get passed the Bulls and go toe to toe with the rest.

This team seems so far behind Miami, LA & OKC its disheartening considering we are locked in for another decade of mediocrity with no lottery picks and only expiring contracts in 3yrs that will net us the next Stephon Marbury, Eddy Curry, Steve Francis castoff.

So if my calculations are correct we should maybe compete again somewhere between 2022-2030 and by then James Dolan's health will have surely declined.

But Lin would've been here in 3yrs whereas Amare, Tyson and Melo would be declining. Melo will still be great while Lin would be in his prime. Then we could've added pieces like a Kevin Love. Now in 3yrs we will be left with absolutely nothing again. Like when we traded Ewing and Sprewell because Dolan's feelings were hurt

Well as much as I hated seeing Lin go, we have a strong team this year so I can't about being pissed in 3 years.
