Now that we are in the dog days of summer as far as Knicks news is concerned, it got me thinking. How good would the Knicks have been with a mid-90s Ewing (prime) and current Carmelo Anthony? He would have been the best player Ewing ever played with. Also, let's assume the supporting cast from the 90s that included Oakley, Starks, Harper, etc, just insert Anthony in the starting lineup at SF. How good is this team? How do they compete in relation to the Bulls of that era? Are they better than Houston? How many, if any titles does this team win? How does a frontcourt of Melo, Ewing, and Oakley rank in comparison to Melo, Stoudemire, and Chandler? How would Ewing and Anthony fit together as a 1-2 punch?

I have compared him also in the past to Glen Rice and Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson. Great players in their prime.

I'd say with Melo in NY his star is shining a bit brighter and maybe his projectory is higher if he stays healthy and motivated.

Melo I don't think are as good as the cousins McGrady or Vinsanity. They might have been truer 3. Melo has a better inside game and morphing into a 4 with his strength.

As far as melo and ewing fantasy.........Yeah we get one chip at least.

You take the guy with the worst playoff record in the league and you think it's gonna help the Knicks in the playoffs in the 90s? I'm in the Fish camp - hoping Melo has the right approach next year and has the best year of his career but I see little evidence that he has had a meaningful, positive impact on his teams' wins and losses.

I actually think they would have been perfect and probably win a title together. Ewing was great but the Knicks never had a finisher, Melo could have been that guy and it would have been perfect because Melo would be the 2nd option.

If they were good passers and split-second decision-makers, that would have worked out well. When you add guys who need lots of touches and have below average A/TOs, usually they bring out the worst in each other.

I think Anthony is closer to Bernard King with a better jumper, than Glenn Rice or Glenn Robinson.

Melo even said so about his boyhood idol:

My favorite player is Bernard King, I always looked up to Bernard King, his game, his mid-range game. He was one of the true small forwards of the basketball game. A guy who could go inside, a guy who could step outside, a guy who could just flat out get it done. You know that was somebody who growing up I used to watch old footage of Bernard King, I always tried to cater my game after his, or take some of his moves, or take his mid-range game and just try to put my own spin to it.

Glenn Rice, so far off, dude was a 6'8 shooting guard.

Glenn Robinson is smaller than Melo, not as prolific scoring wise, and not as good a finisher in traffic. Big Dog ended his career with roughly 14000 pts and 4000 rebounds. Melo has almost 16000 pts 4000 rebounds entering his prime years.

Would have loved to see a healthy Bernard King and Patrick Ewing at the same time.

I do not think they will come along with each other.
Warrior and one of the hardest workers in NBA history and cool-melo Melo.
Pat will kick Melo a..ss in the locker-room and Melo with cry like baby...

my dad swears that Ewing and a healthy Bernard King would've done huge things... this would be pretty close to that.

The Knicks definitely beat Houston with Melo starting on the wing

If we're talking a '90's dream, let's go all the way:

Ewing
Melo
Oakley
Jackson
Spree

Line me up some chips with that healthy group.

Would agree with other posters, Melo would be the bigger, stronger BK that Ewing never got to go to war with.

What could have been...

I agree. Melo would have done for Ewing what Kiki was supposed to do.

I think you're crazy. No one in the 90s had the talent and physical abilities of Melo. Why do you think players in the 90s were that much better?

How about:

Ewing
Reed
Melo, King or Spree
Monroe
Clyde

While we are at it.

And with no sarcastic smilys

Spree as good as he played for us, was not a small forward. Spree would've gotten eaten up in this era of Melo, Lebron, Durant.

Actually that lineup wont work because Melo is afraid of sharing the ball with Lin and Amare so the Knicks would have to trade ewing clyde monroe and reed to appease Melo sorry
