Title says it all. It gives teams a chance to get out from a big long term contract and make moves relevant to the coming season instead if languishing for years. It also gives the players being amnestied the abilitity to sign with a team where there is a better fit if they clear waivers. And also gives teams under the cap a chance to pick up some good pieces on the cheap. In short, i think it works and i hope that in the future they make the amnesty option anual

I agree. I am not sure if the player's association would go for an annual amnesty but possibly a bi-annual. Also, I believe the current amnesty clause is only for contracts signed under the previous cba. If it could be expanded to include contracts signed under the current cba it might take away some of the sting from the poison pill contracts teams like Toronto and especially Houston are offering to guys.

ITs basically being able to waive a player and not have it on your cap. We used to do it all the time which is why our salary would be like 98mil and we'd pay crazy taxes. The Taxes are no joke any more.
being able to waive a player and not have against the cap is not a cap.

The key to competing in the NBA is spending wisely. Amnesty won't be biannual or anything and the tax is more punitive than ever in both money and restrictions on payer movement (like no sign and trade deals for taxpayers starting in 2013-2014).
