New York Knicks point guard Raymond Felton has a lot to prove this season. Fans are still upset about losing Jeremy Lin to the Houston Rockets. But Felton has a chance to ease their pain. Here are five reasons why Felton will make Knicks fans forget Lin.

1. Felton Is Motivated

This offseason, Felton has heard the negative comments about his poor performance and weight gain last season. Now he is using this as motivation. Felton said that he is "ready to shut up a lot of people."

2. Felton Has a Solid Track Record

Felton is a durable point guard with an impressive track record. He has averaged 13.4 points and 6.7 assists per game in his career. And he has done this over 483 starts. Now that is a big sample size. That is consistency. History repeats itself, and Felton has a long history of playing well.

3. Felton was bad last season, but not that bad

Felton averaged 11.4 points and 6.5 assists per game last season with the Portland Trail Blazers. He was 11th in the league in assists among qualified players. And this was a down year for Felton. Many NBA guards would love to have a bad season like that.

4. Felton has a lot of talent around him

With so much talent around him in New York, I expect Felton to boost his assists per game. He will also have plenty of opportunities to score, as opposing defenses focus on Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire. The wins should also increase.

5. Felton has already done it in New York

In the 2010-11 NBA Season, Felton was great in New York. He averaged 17.1 points and 9.0 assists in 54 games with the Knicks. He handled the pressure and performed very well. Why can't he recapture that magic? It was only two seasons ago.

Felton is a proven NBA point guard. He is durable and consistent. He has the motivation to push him to be great. All the signs indicate a great season ahead for Felton. And if he has a fast start, Knicks fans will quickly forget all about Lin.

Knicks need only take care of their game and the players words have meaning. Otherwise its just fuel for hate.

Felton is a good solid PG. He is cappable of knocking down open 3s off the ball, he is cappable of playmaking and creating for others, he is cappable of playing strong defense. He isn't great at anything but pretty solid at everything. I don't expect 17-9 which people keep bringing up since thats what he averaged last time with us. But I do expect solid play. For the majority of his career he has played winning basketball even if it doesn't show in the stat line. His one stinker in Portland should not be the tale of his career and he should be given benifet of doubt. Its not like its the opposite which he has been a bum his whole career but only played great last season. That is more of a warning this having a solid NBA career and then having a bad yr because you were out of shape during a lockout season.

I feel very comfortable with Felton at the point, and think with Felton, Kidd and whatever his name is we have a strong group of point guards.

I can really see this team shaping into a defense-first team, and I think in that regard we are actually better off with Felton than with Lin, but only time will tell if we made the right decision.

Anyway, I don't see Felton at 17-9 simply because of the system he's now playing in, but I would like to see 14 and 7 and under 3 turnovers. Protecting the basketball is a key and we should be improved in that area.

Jeremy Lin Will Make New York Knicks Fans Forget Jeremy Lin. When he puts up average stats and racks up losses in Houston, everyone will forget about him.

For his career, Felton's only shot 33% from three. He's also shot only 41% from the field. And I don't know what you mean by "winning basketball". In the five years he played for Charlotte they finished .500 or better only once, his last season there. The year after that we signed him and then traded him when we were 2 games over .500 to a Denver team that, at the time, was 9 games over .500 and finished the year 8 games over .500. The best thing I can say about Felton is that he's adequate.

33% from 3 is not bad, and he has shot 38.5% and 39% the previous 2 yrs before the Portland travesty. Charlotte has been a franchise that just hasn't hit on its draft picks like Okafor, Morrison, Ty Thomas, Sean May and limited interest in free agents or spending money on free agents. Bobcats haven't been able to put together enough talent in order for them to win at a high level consistently. Felton though was apart of and a key cog in the franchise lone playoff birth in its 9 yr existence. Felton helping the Bobcats with Steven Jackson, Gerald Wallace, Boris Diaw as its featured players to the playoffs is a big accomplishment in my book. He plays winning basketball because he can control tempo, not afraid of taking big shots, hits big shots, creates easy shots for others, plays solid man defense & passing lanes. He isn't elite at any of that but he is cappale of all that. The Knicks won 29 games the previous yr to be 12 games under .500. Lost Lee, Harrington, Robinson, Duhon. Added Felton, Amare, Fields, Shawne Williams and were 2 games over .500. Felton had a lot to do with that as he did helping Amare have an MVP type of season. Denver was 32-25 or 7 games over .500 with Carmelo Anthony and Chauncy Billups then over hauled major players to and from there roster. Denver then went 17-7 which again Felton was a big part of that(see the trend). As a matter of fact Felton missed 3 games in Denver, 2 of them were losses so really Denver was 16-5 in games Felton played which is like a 76 win %, or a 62-20 record over 82 games. And just for good measure he won a national championship at UNC. So like I was saying Felton is a good solid pg who I don't expect to put up 17-9 but expect solid all around play.

I wasn't upset. I was never a big Billups fan but Felton's play had pretty much fallen off a cliff when we traded him.

Felton contributed a lot from MDA system and team play we had back than.
Now when he will have just a supporting role he most likely will continue to be unvisible.
I do not think however we need strong PG play with this roster and Woody.
He is good enough to bring the ball up and dump it to Melo and defend his man. This is all we need from him.

I'd settle for hoping he makes us forget Tony Douglas.

Ray Felton is going to make us forget Linsanity? Slow sports news day on Yahoo.

Felton contributed a lot for a little over four weeks after which his play and shooting numbers fell off dramatically. And with Amare's bad play and back injury from last season I'm not sure that we have a #2 guy on offense to take some of the pressure off of Melo.
