i think i read somewhere that this is simply a preseason camp signing and he will be sent down to DLeague (erie) once the season starts..its just so they own his rights in D league

"Chris Smith, a point guard from Louisville, played for the Knicks' summer league team in Las Vegas. He could likely be a training camp roster-filler because the team is already stacked at the point with Raymond Felton, Jason Kidd and Pablo Prigioni. A source familiar with the situation said the Knicks acquired Smith so they could assign his rights to their D-League team, the Erie BayHawks."

hes not a PG...hes a SG trapped in a PGs body and he cant shoot...lol...this was simply a good jesture to JR...kinda like thanx for resigning at a low price..we promise to take care of u

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

This was probably part of the agreement with JR when he re-signed with us.

RealGM has covered this topic ad nauseam. There is nothing written, no one remembers talking about this, it's all based on merit. End of story.

Of course it is not written. That would violate the NBA contract rules. I believe it was made as a "gentlemen's" agreement and Grunwald/Dolan kept to their word.
or
we could just officially say how fortunate we were that JR wanted to come back to play for the Knicks so much that he just took the lower salary we could offer rather than play with another team at a higher salary.

Handshake deal...I bet the NBA gm's never did that before

I wonder how many under the table deals teams have done, that's not in writing....like if you sign with us we will buy you a house and move your whole family in for free....hook up family with jobs at cablevision....

who knows...if you can speak to the owner directly and keep everything tight, then it would be tough to prove. But people would have to launch an investigation....if they ever did i think we would find out alot of side deals have been made

I've never heard of them buying a house, which would probably be really easy for the NBA to prove, but plenty of teams hire friends and family of a player. A bunch of Marbury's people were hired by the Knicks when he was here and I remember reading that the Cavs hired a bunch of Lebron's people.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

I don't care if they hire JR Smith's nephew to announce games alongside Clyde. If it gets JR to sign a piddly $2.8 million contract, bring on the nepotism!
