... or is it better to rehash his past?

“Guys are trying to get everyone going. I don’t think anyone wants to be the guy who’s known for taking all the shots. Even going through our offense five-on-zero, we have five, six passes. It’s like, ‘Someone just take the shot." - Melo

"Anthony poured in 16 points on 6-for-6 shooting in just 12 minutes, and keyed a game-changing run early in the second half in the United States' 110-63 win over Tunisia. Team USA came out flat early, trailing by one point after eight minutes. At that point, coach Mike Krzyzewski put in a second unit featuring Anthony and Deron Williams, and they started to right the ship." - ESPN

The Americans put the game away early in the second half with a 21-3 run led by Anthony. - ESPN

“We saw on film this morning with guys just passing up open shots. Even [Kevin Durant] is. He came out hot and a couple of times he didn’t shoot the ball, and we were on the bench yelling: ‘Don’t pass the ball. Shoot it if you’re wide open.’ We expect guys to take shots they’re supposed to take. Even in the second half a couple of times we passed the ball five, six times and didn’t get a shot. We got too unselfish. It’s a good thing, but could become a bad thing." - Melo

(Anthony) had nine points, two rebounds and a steal during the spurt, which took most of the suspense out of a game made surprisingly close by the underdog Tunisians.[/i] - ESPN

What is Carmelo learning over his summer vacation about complimentary basketball?

Can we please have our healthy Tyson Chandler back for training camp?

It's funny how the positive threads sink to the bottom of the forum but create a whiny, negative thread and the thread goes triple platinum.

I'm Knicks & Melocentric all day. Melo looks great but he obviously plays very different when he has tons of confidence in his teammates. He needs to carry that over to the Knicks even though, obviously, the talent level falls off a cliff in comparison to the USA squad but he needs to make that the thing he comes away with. Granted Melo's already proven to be a willing passer but I think his lack of confidence/trust in his teammates, deservedly so, is the hump he needs to get over.

This always happens when you put together an allstar unit. Guys tend to overpass a bit.

I want this Anthony on the Knicks this season. I'm glad he's playing and representing our country as well as the Knicks. If he can bottle this summer and bring it to the fall we'll be in great shape. Stay off the rice and beans when you come back home from London!

They Said It

"It's a whole different playing field. The Olympics are far different than the friendly games that we played, and we know that we have to play well in pool play, and also when it comes down to the medal rounds, it's going to be single elimination. It's one-and-done. So, we need to do whatever we can to prepare ourselves for that." - Kevin Love

"It is fun. I don't consider myself a sixth man but, it is fun—coming in and doing what I gotta do. Help the team win, help the team get going."
- Melo

Did he say fun?

(Carmelo's unselfishness is) big for Team USA, because one of the challenges in managing a team laden with stars is getting its members to sacrifice their customary starting spots and big-time roles in order to accept smaller parts for the betterment of the squad. And if Anthony, one of the best scorers in the NBA (or indeed, the world) is willing to be a sixth man, it sends a message to the rest of the team—fall in line, make sacrifices, and we'll take care of business and win a gold medal. - Sporting News

Where is the coverage of Carmelo Anthony as a basketball player, willing to adapt his game, in the New York press?

This means absolutely nothing. Everyone hear knows even the haters and supporters of Melo know that he has to make a better effort to be a consistent shooter and finisher. If the Knicks are going to make any kind of run Melo has to consistently shoot 50% for the season. He should make it a goal for the entire year to shoot 50% or better.

VMart - please. Get off your crazy horse. No one, whose game is based on a formula of shots primarily taken outside the paint, shoots 50 per cent in the NBA.

No one.

I would gladly take 45% from Melo. Where was he last year 43?

Then don't take bad shots.
Wade, Lebron, Nash, Harden, and Durant are exceptions to your statement also.

Fidee Is Fidee

bonn1997 - In 2011-12 Dwyane Wade shot .497 from the field. Durant shot .496. Neither is fidee percent.

Lebron shot 53 per cent but who else is the superstar named Lebron James?

No one ever taught you how to round off? Seriously, though, I think now you're just being silly.

Melo needs to develop the trust in his Knicks' teammates that he has in his team US teammates. His Knicks' teammates obviously are not as talented but a high percentage shot by any of them is still better than a contested fade-away by Melo.

I've been watching and he looks like a stud

He's also allowed to play his game. And when that happens he typically looks like a stud

Kobe Bryant also looks like his biggest fan when you see the bench reactions to his play. That's an endorsement that means something to me

Reggie Miller did it many times. Monta Ellis does it. Tony Parker does it. Rondo does it. When Dirk did it he won a title. We could do this all day, but believe it or not its actually possible to be a "scorer" AND take good shots. Hard for the Melo lovers to digest but there is evidence pointing to this.

Waiting for a guy to become something he isnt is foolhardy. However as the 2nd option on offense Carmelo could make this team elite. I guess we will see what his priority is next year.

No idea where the Ellis example comes from but you're right that many perimeter players are more efficient than Melo and Melo needs to become more efficient.

I noticed yesterday that no one made a thread. He was great yesterday. Melo along with Westbrook Looked like the best players on the floor.Guy is playing great defense. Even on the FT's he is showing great effort establishing position to get possible rebounds.I think melo is figuring things out.

That could be it or it could be just a random string of good play. I remember after he first joined the Knicks and had a high shooting % (including 40+% from 3 pt range), many said he finally figured things out and has become a much more efficient shooter.

Lol at random string of good play. Dude just lucked into 5 All star games and 5 All NBA Teams. I guess USA Basketball just picked him for the last 3 Olympics because they need the token fat guy too.
