When bosh went down the heat weren't the same defensively because of their lack of size. LeBron is clearly a great defender but he didn't look nearly as good when he didn't have length down low. The Knicks on the other hand looked a whole lot worse than 'not as good' with Tyson off the floor. Sheesh (spoken in a misterearl tone).
I respect your opinion but I completely disagree. How would Bosh do without Lebron? How many players can guard and shut down all 5 positions? His ball denial completely disrupts the opposing offense. DID YOU SEE WHAT HE DID TO DROSE LAST SEASON? Why DID HE NOT MAKE FIRST TEAM??????????? Coaches have no reason to dislike Tyson, he is very likable.
I don't believe that its close. Tyson is a distant second.
I think LeBron is without a doubt one of the best defensive players in the game. I'm not questioning that. I just think that he didn't look as good when Bosh went down because he could play the wing much more aggressively than without Bosh.
I give Tyson the nod specifically because he pretty much carried the Knicks defense until Shump came onto the scene. I think I read that the Knicks gave up 113 ppg when Tyson was out.
In terms of the actual voting, what hurt LeBron is that he had the advantage of playing d on a team with Wade, Battier, and Bosh. Bosh isn't in the same league as the other three, but he roams the floor and that's a big advantage. Again, Tyson was a one man army for most of the year and so good at what he does that he's a Team USA starter
I just think everyone should be singing his praises around here because that was the first excellent season a Knick has had in forever and a day
He has been great for us - nobody can argue that. I just don't think he is the game changer that Lebron in defensively.
Lebron was a great defender in Cleveland as well and that was without those guys.
Tyson also commits way too many dumb fouls while Lebron never fouls out or even gets close to it - and thats while playing extremely physical.
Lebron consistently guards the opposing star and shuts them down.
I also think that at the center position, Tyson could get more rebounds and blocks.
Bosh did not make Toronto better defensively, they were at the bottom of the league while cleveland was at the top, so, who made who better?
Having said all that, he is a great defender and second team is great.
