I was talking with a lot of folks in the office, my friends in Brooklyn and NJ, just random guys in Sport Authority shop and...
a lot of them told me that they are switching to Nets.
And the reason being putting aside old stories of Dolan and last decade of embarrassments the last events of Walsh, MDA, and Lin departures.
Talk about conspiracy... but it is a perfect turn of events for Nets to establish solid NYC fan base.
They already get 10K of season tickets and press is good.
So who will be the NYC Clippers?

I think the Nets are gonna suck. I expect them to be between .450 and .500.

This is very possible but not the point.
Knicks suck for a long time already but it was no other NYC team around.
Now it is... The game is changed forever and Dolan and Co did not get it.

Like I said in another thread, I can see some Brooklynites jumping ship and even some left over Jersey fans. But when I see the Nets uniforms, I see Brooklyn. I'm not from Brooklyn so that team doesn't represent me or many other New Yorkers who aren't from Brooklyn...

Plenty of basketball fans who disregarded the nets and at the same time never had thier moment with the knicks.

Mine was the early 70's. Many of you the Ewing era. For the "causual" fan, its never happened.

Fake or real, I am long on record as saying the Nets move was brilliant.

It was a great move by the Nets. It's going to be a good rivalry along the line of Yankees/Mets. Yankees=Knicks/Mets=Nets

I think our Knicks has been the Clippers for 40 years. We just didn't have a Lakers in NYC. Yankees spent money but won numerous times. Yankees is nothing like Knicks. Knicks spent record-breaking money but never made it to playoff for years... I don't see resemblance.

The Yankees used to spend boat loads of money in the 80's and didn't gave anything to show for it either than a W.S. loss in 1981. They went 14 years in between playoff appearances.

Knicks ticket $ > Nets ticket $

Of course they will be at near capacity because they will be the only affordable team in town.

This is like the Clippers versus Lakers.

Yeah but in MLB only the division winners went to the playoffs. In the NBA, more than half the teams do. The Yankees were actually about 100 games above .500 during that stretch. I can't imagine anyone objectively looking at the Knicks and Yankees records during the stretches and thinking the teams owners' were comparably effective.

Steinbrenner was considered one of the worst owners in baseball until he got suspended. He saw that things were working well with him being less involved so he took a step back. We can only hope that one day Dolan realizes that basketball decision should be left to the basketball people.

Jay Buehner for Ken Phelps!!!!

The Yankees/Knicks comaprison was not made to compare the Yankees to the Knicks. It was moreso this is Knicks land as it's Yankees land in baseball.

Again these fans you say isnt diehards as really as bad as 'real' diehards who SAY I switch to the Nets

All them folks do is network and sports isnt even secondary or third-dary if ever such a word existed !

I aint into fans like that but understand they can be your friends, Fine cool

But I know a story like that a guy, a friend whom always Knicks 1st before other sport
well moment 2 short yrs ago he moved to Fla., all of a sudden during HEAT championship ending he's on facebook
Heat Fan & NY suck!

See what i mean

Got no use for that crap

You either a fan or something else

Folks whom talking bout a switch perhaps switched 3-4 times, 5 -6 times other sports outside Knicks/nba
one day a fan of this another day a fan of opposite what they were in first place

Aint really into sports is what is sounds like they use it to just have a good time
talk, keep friendships and network about to feel they belong to something

I bet Brooklyn (I'm from born bklyn) Nets will have lots of those types whom want to belong to something
So Nets + Brooklyn is in, before the move aint no one talking at least up to point where stadium opens in few months

Trash fans it sounds like to me!
but its a free country do what u want
besides whom I to talk ?

I rooted for 1 team nearly 30 yrs now
Root for NY Knicks in NBA
Root for Pitt Steelers in NFL
Root for SF Giants in MLB
That's it! No Hockey team, no socceer team

If the Nets win, they will have fans show up. If they are mediocre or lose, the luster will wear off quickly. The Nets are trying to build a better brand and a loyal base. They need to win to also gain TV ratings on the YES network. My guess is that they are going to be brash and braggadocio.....like the Jets, to generate more fan interest. Would not be surprised to see them eventually bring in an outspoken coach as well. It will still take a while.

Whether the Knicks have good or bad management, they already have a loyal fan base built....so they will not rely as much on the bandwagon fans for attendance, however it will help TV ratings. If the Knicks become a winning team, each game becomes an event beyond anything the Nets can achieve at this point.

"Real" Knicks fans but can get angry all you want but..

1) Knicks are now Manhattan's team. There is a team in Brooklyn and "casual" fans entering will get a choice.
2) James Dolan has been an atrocious owner for 12 years, thus Jay-Z and a Russian billionaire who is too busy actually making his money and working to make General Management decisions is attractive to many.
3) Deron Williams is arguably the best PG in the league.
4) The Knicks ran this town because of 1973 and 1994, 1999. It's been 13 years since we had something special happen with the Knicks. 13 years. With only negativity sprinkled in with some false hope, you don't create and maintain a fan base.

So next time you think you're being "real", and staying true to the Knicks, you can congratulate yourself. I am there right with ya. But don't disparage others because of their choices, because their choices ain't too bad.

I don't care what people think. People are stupid. - Charles Barkley

You can make a lot of money getting the band wagon full!

This is not about wooing the long term knick fan.

When you went to the garden for the last 10 years to see the Lakers and Cavs with lebron and there were cheers for Kobe and lebron you then begin to understand there are lot of causual fans that go watch basketball. Melo is promoted as a "Star" so he gets the hype of the machine.
Lots of fans go to see Melo put up points. Thats cool.

Knicks lose and Melo hangs 35, thats cool with lots of fans.

They buy tickets and watch games, but they don't posts 20,000 times on websites.
