I don't know about NBA a lot, and looking at wikipedia "On December 9, 2011, Chandler announced that he agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the New York Knicks worth $58 million"

So my question is

1st year. 3 mill
2nd year 5 mill
3rd year 25 mill
4th year 25 mill.

Would people be upset if he was getting paid like this?

I made this topic because it seems that people are upset at the *14 mill* on Jeremy for 1 year, while it is a 8mill for 3 year deal sorta.

No, because he's a damn good defensive lowpost guy and he can definitely score, not ridiculously, but decently. So overall the pricetag fits. If we assume he doesn't get season-ending injuries.

If Lebron or Wade or Melo or Stat is making 17-19 mill a year, and they see Tyson with 25 mill a year .

I mean the people that hate lin's contract said it's a huge 14mill a year that's crazy.

But on this situation they might say 25mill a year that's crazy.

Then again, J.R. Smith 'Without A Doubt' Thinks Jeremy Lin Contract Could Be Locker Room Issue

"I'm sure the city would love to have him back, but the team decided to go in a different direction," Smith said. "It's nothing personal, I don't think, just business. We just hope everybody can benefit from here.

"I don't really know how Mr. Dolan feels at this point with what the luxury tax is now and what it used to be, but I just hope it works out the best for both of them."

Asked if Lin's contract could cause a challenging dynamic with his teammates, Smith agreed.

"Without a doubt," he said. "I think some guys take it personal, because they've been doing it longer and haven't received any reward for it yet. I think it's a tough subject to touch on for a lot of guys."

First, Tyson Chandler has actually proven that he's a good player. He's one of the three best defensive centers in the league and single-handedly made the Knicks a top five defensive team last season.

It depends. a $2.50 dollar-for-dollar tax penalty on $25 million in the third year of Tyson Chandler's contract makes Tyson worth 100 million dollars for the year. As good as Tyson is, nobody's matching that Poison pill.

If they signed Jeremy for 5 mill 5 mill 15mill, is it possible to amnesty his last year?

Also I'm reading http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8179081/nba-jeremy-lin-six-degrees-separation-new-york-knicks

and this is the most interesting part.

In interviews, Woodson said the Knicks would "absolutely" match the offer.
But the Rockets had a surprise up their sleeves.

Maybe if Woodson had shut up, then Rockets won't up their contract?

We already used the amnesty on billups. Teams only get 1.

Q. How do you justify paying Jeremy Lin three times more than the Hall Of Fame guard you are bringing in to mentor him?

tj23 - you are making a common mistake by looking only at the superficial things that matter less than team cohesion and chemistry. Put down the NBA Almanac and step away from the vehicle. Now consider the human element.

Basketball is a fine art of getting twelve men to trust each other. The less drama the better. The reason New York is so different from other places is the intense scrutiny of every detail. Think of it this way - here you are here in July, talking relative productivity with The Answer Man. Thank about that.

The main point is that getting those 12 players together requires more than statistics. It demands an understanding of egos and comprehension. Phil Jackson understod this and gave his players books chosen to address their individual personalities. There is more to this thing that simply basketball. It is team building.

Jeremy Lin is a good player to have on Houston's roster because they desperately needed a point guard, could use the attention and blew it the first time. Their roster is young and impressionable. Nice fit.

The Knicks roster is composed of grizzled veterans, with a few yoots sprinkled in. Hell, even our Summer league dudes are older. Copeland is 28 and Parakhouski is 25. James White is a contemporary of David Lee. The veterans are expected to lead. Does the money empower Lin at an unbalanced rate that causes tension, which the media is happy to exploit and magnify?

You tell me where the better emotional, egotistical/ economic FIT is.

You do not pay the expert mentor (with 1315 games and 107 triple doubles) 1/3 the salary of the unproven student, with 25 games).

You simply do not.

The Answer Man Is Paid In Full

Q. lockon - Would people be upset if (Lin) was getting paid like this?

A. The only people that matter are the 14 other people on the roster.

I understand that you're an complete *******, but I'm done with this.

It seems you also can't see Jeremy making 15mill 1 year, when Melo and Stat and Tyson are making millions of money each year.

How many rings do Melo and Stat have?
If Lebron has 1 ring and Wade has 2 rings, how come they make less than Stat or Melo?

Lebron and Wade make less because they sat down with Bosh and agreed that they would all take less money so they can play together. All 3 could have signed for max deals and they chose to come together. However, all had multiple all star selections and 6+ years in the league at the time as well.

What part of Melo, STAT and Tyson being PROVEN players who worked their asses off in order to earn their pay?

What part of 25 games is not deserving of making a $15 million pay day?

So Knick fans are here for regular wins and not a championship.

Ok.

So the Knicks are not championship material without Lin?

Please, look at Felton's numbers under MDA and compare to Lin's. Than look at Lin's numbers under Woody compare to Felton's career numbers.

Right now, Felton is a better PG.

I don't look at that $15M year without considering the other 2 years. He is making about $8.3M/year for 3 years, and that is how you should look at it when considering Lin's value and whether or not he is overpaid.

$8.3 could be considered steep as well. It's difficult to gauge how valuable Lin is based on what was seen. Regardless, we'll know in the near future.

All this doesn't matter anymore. Lin is gone. I wish him the best. I want him to succeed.

Oh, we are not gonna hear the end of this anytime soon. We still hear people pining for Gallinari on a fairly regular basis. They are not gonna get over this for a long time, if ever.
