WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Former Orlando Magic assistant coach Patrick Ewing confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com on Sunday that he will be interviewing soon for the Portland Trail Blazers head coaching job.

The Blazers have previously spoken to Hall of Fame coaches Phil Jackson and Jerry Sloan, but they both turned down the opportunity. While Kaleb Canales holds down his interim status, the Blazers are also reportedly going to meet with assistant coaches Steve Clifford (Orlando), Adrian Griffin (Chicago), David Joerger (Memphis), Mike Malone (Golden State) and Brian Shaw (Indiana).

Phil Jackson has also expressed interest in the Blazers job.

If Lin winds up a Rocket, I bet D'Antoni is their next coach.

Phil and Sloan both turned the Blazers down

Pat needs to learn that it's mostly role players that get head coaching jobs, not hall of fame players.. with the exception of a few, like bird and IT..the hall of fame players usually take a back office GM/Pres type role...

I think at this point pat wants to be hands on. I think pat's communication skills are under rated.

That's good for Big Pat. Hopefully someone hires him and he can get some ehad coach experience under his belt.

If no one hires him as a head coach, what's the possibility of him becoming another assistant for Woody?

Hey, he might as well, since (between the Knicks recent transactions and employee hirings) we're getting the ol' band back together again already as it is.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

I really thought he had the bobcats job in the bag being close with mj but he lost it to the st johns assistant. Dont see how he gets this job. Cant see him on the knicks too much of a distraction for woodson. Would suck if he wound up in brooklyn mentoring lopez
