the fact that the knicks are on the verge of pissing off a sizeable chunk of their fan base... the EXACT same season that the Nets moved into Brooklyn.

that's just insanely dumb.

Dolan at his absolute best.

It's worth $25M to keep fans happy so they don't buy Nets season tickets.

Dolan is an idiot.

Good point. The only thing that would make it more hilarious would be if he were signing with the Nets.

That would be funny too, definitely. You have to take humor in what Jimmy does.

I think in this situation it is more about what Daryl Morey and Jeremy Lin did than what Dolan will do. I didn't think winning the Bird's Rights Case would put the Knicks in a position where another team could offer Lin a contract that might not be matchable by the Knicks. The Knicks had every intention of matching Lin's deal. While I am not an expert on the cba several things have been pointed out about that third year that are pretty scarey. The Knicks would not be able to participate in a sign and trade because of their cap situation. The Knicks would be paying 3.50 for every dollar they are over the cap. Also, what if the Knicks can't trade Lin or Amare before that third year. I want Lin back but I understand why he might not be and I agree with Hahn's column where he said Lin wants to be a rocket and that was why he signed this contract.

MSG holds 19,000 people. That's a lot of money. But MSG gets a lot of money for ad rates. People tuning into YES instead loses money for MSG, too.

Jeremy Lin games got the highest ratings on MSG ever. Ever. And ESPN, too.

If you think we're not talking about millions of dollars in advertising dollars, we are.

Losing your most marketable and popular player for $25M is one of the stupidest business decisions ever for a $780M franchise that just spent $800M renovating seat cushions at MSG.

So a one dimensional Novak is worth 15,000,000 and lin is not worth an extra 10

Lin is so marketable? Where is his sneaker deal? Where are the commercials?

Stop the madness. He has one endorsement deal with Volvo, a Chinese owned company.

Dolan has done some dumb ****. Ewing, Houatons contract, stewardship of the Isiah era, etc. He's horrible. But I refuse to believe he will let Lin walk for nothing. This is an actual business we're talking about and he has advisors outside of the Knicks front office from Cablevision to Wealth Management.

If he lets Lin go its just horrible business. And I don't discount what it'll mean on the court. Lin can play.

Exactly. This is about Lin, and what he and Morey did. This is not about Dolan. Dolan was willing to pay but then got backstabbed by a player who basically was ungrateful.

This is about Dolan's reaction to what Lin did.

What did Lin do? He did what the Knicks told him to do - find the market price for himself.

Knicks could have avoided this by offering him a contract on July 1 - if nothing else, it may have engendered some good will. Knicks played this wrong. Not sure if that was Dolan's call from the jump or Grunwald misread the market, but the Knicks did not play this well and Lin got a huge offer.

And, STILL, if the Knicks don't match they are idiots.

You don't compound one mistake with another mistake.

Knicks made a mistake. It's up to them to bite the bullet or poison pill in this case. Refusing to admit mistakes is the Dolan way though. So get ready for 39yr old Drunk Jason Kidd and 300lb Felton as opposed to one of the young and exciting point guards in the league.

Point guard is a major position in this league. Knicks had a blue chip prospect who they are literally GIVING AWAY to a team that uses sabermetrics and determined Lin was better than Lowry or Dragic.

This is, again, one of the all-time stupid moves. And they aren't even being traditionally stupid, they're being belligerent and vindictive.

Stupid.

I think the knicks were paying a little too much attention to what steph a smith had to say and undervalued Lin making Nash #1 priority. Shame the Lin defenders in the media are only coming out now when it might be too late

Knicks have done lots of stupid things over the years. This time isn't it. They got "horn-swaggled" by Lin and Morey.

You again, great post.

It really makes no sense. The deeper we go into it, the more we realize it's personal.

The question is ... and it's what none of us really know or are privy to, was the follow up meeting with the rockets and JLin done to really make sure the Knicks don't match?

If yes, then I can see the Knicks brass being a bit upset.

I think Lin is a bit HURT too since the knicks did not offer him an initial contract.

Nobody is clean here.
