First of all you can't teach size. Second of all, MJ, Barkley, Malone, Ewing, Robinson, Drexler, Pippen were in their absolute primes.

Charles Barkley fires back at Kobe
ESPN.com news services

"Well, just from a basketball standpoint, they obviously have a lot more size than we do -- you know, with (David) Robinson and (Patrick) Ewing and (Karl) Malone and those guys," Bryant told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday. "But they were also -- some of those wing players -- were also a lot older, at kind of the end of their careers. We have just a bunch of young racehorses, guys that are eager to compete.
"So I don't know. It'd be a tough one, but I think we'd pull it out."
In an interview on The Mike Missanelli Show on 97.5 The Fanatic Philadelphia, Dream Team member Charles Barkley said his squad would win by double digits.
"Oh yeah, that's no disrespect," Barkley said. "I ain't got to badmouth them. But like I said, their point guards weren't going to beat us. That's a no-brainer."
Barkley also brushed aside Bryant's comments about the Dream Team's age.
"I just started laughing," Barkley said. "How old is Kobe Bryant? He's 34? And he's calling us old? At the time, we were only like 28, 29. Michael Jordan and me were the same age. We were both 29. ...
"Other than Kobe, LeBron (James) and Kevin Durant, I don't think anybody else on that team makes our team."

Kobe talking out his ass like the arrogant ******* prick he is.

Great, a conversation between an arrogant prick and a stupid fart mouth moron.

At least Barkley did the math.

Sort of weird, this coming from Kobe, since he's been documented as having idolized all these guys when he was coming up.

I guess ego is a terrible thing to try and keep in check as you get older and it keeps expanding.

Straight off the bat, the fact Ewing, and Robinson are in the middle with Barkley and malone .....that's game right there. Stockton, Magic, Jordan, Pippen, Drexler all played defense and could run for days too. They have the intangibles that separate them though.

The old guys Kobe is talking about is probably Bird....Bird has been the old slow guy since he was on a farm in Indiana somewhere, but he still found a way to destroy you.

Kobe is a disrespectful ass.....he's old enough to rememeber playing against those guys. He needs to humble himself

What exactly did Kobe say? That his team would win b/c they are younger, even though that might not be true?

got to agree with both Chucks !
Chuck here and Barkley

Dunno what the experienced Kobe was thinking. Its ok to say his current team would compete
but skillwise and basics the Dream team would squash this team on 'know how' smarts alone. Few games competitive

It would take 1 yr for Kobe's current team to figure out the Barcelone USA Team
then and only then would Kobe team have a chance to win

I think this is blown out of proportion.

IMO, Kobe is really psyched about the Olympics and the team we have. He may be over optimistic about their abilities against the Dream Team, but I like the optimism.

He's gotta respect the elders....he could say he thinks his team could compete....but not straight up win.

I think the team that had a healthy penny and grant hill could beat the current dream team. The team that had Vince jump over Weis could beat the current team as well....

sometimes you just need to be quiet....cuz yes it's going to get thrown out of proportion by the media and crzy fans like me

I think it is closer than some think. Yes they have the size advantage but what happens if this line up goes small? It would be and interesting match up. Who guards Jordan? who guards Lebron? I think the best Line up for 2012 would be Kobe,Lebron, Melo, Durant, and Chandler.

People forget how athletic and quick Barkley was for his size. He could rebound in traffic, start the break, outlet to one of the guards, and still be the one to finish the break. He would be an absolute load for anyone on the 2012 team to handle.

Michael Jordan: Dream Team better
Associated Press

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Michael Jordan said there's no way Kobe Bryant and this year's USA Olympic basketball team could've beaten the 1992 Dream Team.
Jordan told The Associated Press Thursday that he laughed -- "I absolutely laughed" -- when hearing Bryant's comments that the U.S. squad training in Las Vegas could take Jordan and company.
Jordan said there's "no comparison" which team is better.
"For him to compare those two teams is not one of the smarter things he ever could have done," Jordan said prior to playing in a celebrity golf tournament in Charlotte.
Jordan said the 1992 team, which included 11 future Hall of Famers and won its six Olympic games by an average of more than 43 points en route to capturing the gold medal, was a better overall team largely because of the experience it put on the floor.
"I heard Kobe say we were not athletic," said a smiling Jordan as he sat in a golf cart puffing on his cigar while waiting to tee off. "But we were smart. He said we were too old, but I was 29 and in the prime of my career. Pip (Scottie Pippen) was 26 or 27, (Charles) Barkley was 29, Patrick (Ewing) was 29 and Chris Mullin was 29. Almost everybody was still in their 20s."
Jordan's response came after Bryant told reporters in Las Vegas that this year's team could pull out a win against the Dream Team if they faced each other in their primes. Bryant said this year's team has a "bunch of racehorses, players who are incredibly athletic, while the Dream Team consisted mainly of players at the tail end of their careers."
Bryant's comments received immediate and sharp rebuttal from some members of the Dream Team, including Barkley.
Jordan joined in on Thursday.
"Most of us were in the prime of our careers, at a point where athleticism doesn't really matter," said Jordan, the owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. "You have to know how to play the game."
Jordan shook his head when asked why he thinks Bryant made the comments.
"I imagine he's trying to say it to legitimize his own Dream Team," Jordan said. "But to me it's not even a question what team is better."
Jordan said Bryant is certainly entitled to his opinion -- even though he said it's just plain wrong.
"For him to make that comparison, it's one of those things where it creates conversation," Jordan said. "I guess we'll never know. I'd like to think that we had 11 Hall of Famers on that team, and whenever they get 11 Hall of Famers, you call and ask me who had the better Dream Team. Remember now, they learned from us. We didn't learn from them."

Kobe just trying to self-validate his greatness as usual. Both MJ and Kobe supreme dickheads, Kobe just more extroverted and public with his assholisms.

agreed

Respectively
folks today (young stars)
and media forget that those Orig. Dream Team and USA Teams of Shaq and those talents played hard all 4 qtrs &
woulda legally in basketball terms 'Knocked' some of these todays superstars on their ass_sses all thru the game
repetively all throughout the play, these younger guys would eventually succumb and begged out of such force and action non-stop.

Only LBJ & maybe Melo physically could hang with the physically beatups and the Westbrooks, Kobes, CP3s , Blakes would get whacked so much
legally hard in a series of games by likes of MJ, Bird, Barkley, Ewing & Malone, Pippen & Robinson and on and over and over again
These guys would be complaining to all whom want to hear they are not allowed to play their ballet type of game run & dunk shoot em' up
high jump flying styles.

There is NO way physically these guys especially Durant would be able to stand the force
even the Better Shaq USA teams would score a Knockout punch & Marvin Hagler TKO at end of
game or series.

Enuff said!

under 92 nba rules and enforcement dream team wins.... under today's rules, kobe/lebron et al probably wins. dream team would rely mostly on postplay which makes it tougher with today's isolation rules and since zone is allowed. today's dream team is also 10x more quicker at every position which means if you go by today's rules of no hand checking, they would probably go to the line a million times.

but if you go by 92 era rules then original dream team wins hands down because they just have way too much size against a really weak frontcourt. if you include dwight howard it might even things up a bit.

it would be interesting however... magic/stockton vs paul/westbrook... mj vs kobe... pippen vs lebron/melo.. malone/robinson/ewing obliterate bosh/griffin/chandler though and that's probably where dream team would edge out this team. if you played a 7 game series using a mix of rules.

I like how Barkley said not only could the 2012 team not beat the Dream Team, but only 3 guys on the current team would be good enough to get on the Dream Team. He is right.

LeBron: We would beat Dream Team
ESPN.com news services

LeBron James has joined Kobe Bryant in saying that he believes this year's Team USA Olympic basketball team could beat the 1992 Dream Team.
Days before the current U.S. squad takes the court in London, James made his boast in a recent television interview.
"As a competitor you never want to say that you will lose no matter who you are going against," James told ABC News "Nightline" anchor Cynthia McFadden.
James also showed his respect to the iconic 1992 team, which was led by Michael Jordan and included 11 future Hall of Famers. That team won its six Olympic games by an average of more than 43 points en route to capturing the gold medal.
"The '92 Dream Team paved the way for all of us ... We understand what they did for our game, but we also are big-time competitors as well, so if we got the opportunity to play them in a game we feel like we would win too," James said.
James' comments echoed those of Bryant, who two weeks ago made virtually the same proclamation.
"It would be a tough one but I think we would pull it out," Bryant said at a news conference. "People who think we can't beat that team for one game, they are crazy. To sit there and say we can't, it's ludicrous. We can beat them one time."
Bryant's comments received immediate and sharp rebuttal from some members of the Dream Team. Jordan told The Associated Press he laughed when he heard of Bryant's comments.
"For him to compare those two teams is not one of the smarter things he ever could have done," Jordan said.
President Barack Obama also weighed in on the topic.
"This is a generational thing," Obama said during a halftime interview with ESPN2 as it broadcast an exhibition game between the U.S. and Brazil earlier this month. "I was around in '92, I was a Bulls fan, so I've got to go with the original Dream Team."
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

We get that these aholes are competitors, but to say you can beat the greatest team ever assembled, is like saying Pepsi is better than Coke, Myspace better than Facebook, Floyd Mayweather greater than Mohammed Ali, Handskies are better than Blowskies, Green Lantern better than The Dark Knight Rises. Just shutup and play and let the Historians decide.

Fair ass-essment from 2 great stars Kobe & LBJ
the issue is Those younger superstars NEVER respected the older generation & their era cause the young studs got piece of the cake called 'NBA Titles'

Its still a team game more that ! than about themselves

Kobe and LBJ remarks reflect themselves and what they'd do against 1992 Dream team than actual team itself
Thats all !

Love to see first time either player got 'Clocked' by hard defense play by body of David Robinson, Karl Malon OR
the natural athleticism then of Barkey, Jordan OR Drexler

Whom 92 team would be up their assess ALL NITE LONG 'Way Rick Flair used to quoute'
whoooooooooooooooo

The All nite long play up their tails would put 2012 USA team into submissions, They'd want to fight but will be rendered into submit mode
That's a fact!
