anyone still worried about the SG position...so far weve picked up Kidd and Camby (looks like that WILL happen)...however, with fields gone, we havent replaced the starting SG position...JR will come back but i like him off THE BENCH...shump will be back in jan/feb (maybe)

should we still go after a stop gap SG or a STARTING SG? and do we even have the money to?

most ppl are assuming that JR will sign a long deal after this season...but to me he should still be auditioning for a job...hes hot and cold and tends to have off the court issues...if we have a SG that plays well...knicks could say, forget it and move on...that will give JR incentive to play well and be on his best behavior (almost like auditioning for a spot)

here are some candidates:
1. courtney lee = my #1 option
2. randy foye = i heard he wants to come back to nyc
3. willie green

again, none of these are superstars...but theyre good enough to push JR

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

I know some here don't want to get a talented SG because Shump will come back in January/February and its his starting spot to lose. I don't agree because much can happen from the start of the season to February, and we should always look to sport the best lineup possible.

So if you can get one of these players with the money remaining or through a sign and trade, you have to do it. To me, now that we have Kidd with us and we will surely re-sign Lin, our attention has to go both to backup big man and starting SG. Things do look good with Camby, at least by media reports, but lets see if we can actually get that done. Even so, we have to actively try to recruit somebody that starts at SG for us.

If it later creates a problem, it better be because we have too many talented guys and not the opposite.

I read a rumor that Miami is offering PG Noris Cole, joel Anthony and a future 1st rd pick in a S&T.

I agree, that we do need another SG. I don't want to rush Iman back and want him to take this year easy.
Regardless of when he comes back, it will take him much time to regain the stamina, legs, lungs, and that athleticism.
Simply put, he will not be the same player next year, and I don't want him to re injure it.
We all that Iman plays with 120%, part of the reason why many of us don't want to give up on him yet.

I just can't decide if we need a PG/SG or G/F.
If TD is going to be part of our roster or not?
I see Kidd more as of G/F that will play Laundry Fields minutes, and cannot guard PG's that have speed/quickness.
Kidd gives us the complete opposite that we Fields cannot, while Kidd cannot do things that Field can at SF.
Even using Kidd as our 3rd guard with some minutes, playing SF like he did in Dallas, with JJ Barea and Terry.

With a PG/SG, a player that is capable of penetrating, hitting the 3pointer, and facilitate that Iman could be as a SG.
ex, Felton/ Gary Neal/Foye/ Hinrich/ Nate Robinson

With a G/F we get a better defender but will not be able to penetrate, and help facilitate as much, with our price tag.
ex. Courney Lee/ Terrence Williams/ Danny Green/ Gereld Green

Yeah, like Nash, we were once "the favorites" to land him and now Camby.
It seems like Houston is looking to get the best offer and so is Camby, throwing these rumors around to their benefit.
Depending if we can execute a S&T for Kidd or one for Camby, who we retain at the right price with Novak, and if we can trade TD/Jordan to free up roster spots.
If we do add Camby, I would love to add Henry Sims to be Tyson Chandler's/Camby's apprentice.

ronron (official capologist)...assuming we land camby in a sign & trade...do we still have enough room to sign a SG like foye or lee?

lol, depends...

1) if we keep Novak and at what price
2) if JR Smith Resigns
3) if we S&T for Kidd and Camby
4) S&T for Foye is always possible is always a possiblity...

To many maybe's and what if's, I cant really answer you.
Basically, we still have a chance to be under the 74m to tax bracket to qualify for the full 5m MLE.

If we pay Novak 3m, and do not S%T for both Kidd and Camby, no we cannot get Foye unless through S&T for him.
I personally don't think Novak is worth that $, I would rather have any of these guys, while signing a

If we do 2 sign and trades for Camby and Kidd we still have the 3M MLE to go after another free agent and still retain JR and Novak. If Camby decides he doesn't want to come back and we sign Kidd without using a sign and trade, we can organize a big sign and trade (like we were goig to for Nash) for someone that'll command 7M+ per year.

So Glen Grunwald has scenarios to work with. So far he's doing a fine job. I have a gut feeling Camby doesn't wind up here. Don't know why. Just a feeling. I hope I'm wrong.

If he doesn't I think we put a full court press on guys like Courtney Lee, OJ Mayo, etc. we'll still need a backup big man though.

Hahn made a great point on twitter today. He said there are always quality guys waiting for an offer at the beginning of September. The nets under thorn always seemed to allow the bidding wars to happen and then would add a quality guy for less after things died down. Grunwald may just be showing patience and restraint. I think Knicks will add someone it just might not be right now.

I'm not worried. I think Smith will be fine starting and Kidd and White will both play minutes at SG while Shumpert is out. We should add one more player via summer league like Buford or Thompson, or an NBDL player for depth, but the rotation is fine.

I second the SG non-worry.

JR has obviously cleaned up his act and I think, wants to be here. All the haters should be dispelled. He can have sick shot selection at times, but he plays D, he's not out with injuries every 5 minutes, he apparently can coexist happily with our genius PG and I'd watch just about anyone other than Landry Goodbye Fields at starting SG. And please don't forget The Dunk.

I say he starts until Shump proves he can last as a starter without blowing his body apart.

Now on to more important topics, such as: the over/under on being older than the Celtics on opening day.

I don't like our defense in the backcourt while Shump is recovering (it could take all season)- especially considering we'll have to fact Deron Williams and Joe Johnson. I also don't like our lack of 3pt shooting in the back court either- JR (who hasn't even re-signed yet) is too feast or famine. We need to add something. Courtney Lee is the better player (and will be too expensive), is a good defender, and a good, reliable 3pt shooter. He's been consistent from year to year. It would be great to have him start, and have JR off the bench. However when Shump comes back we'd have a log jam.

Randy Foye would essentially be a slightly better version of the TD from 2 seasons ago. He can shoot (hot and cold though), and defend, and can also play a bit of PG (not great at this but better than Courtney Lee) if Kidd or Linn get hurt. He's not brilliant, but could be adequate. He likes NY and may be cheaper. Also he's not as high profile a player and so when Shump gets back, there won't be as much of a log jam minutes wise.
