Who wouldn't love it if the Knicks went out and signed 1-day free agent contracts with our good 'ole favorite players... and let them go into retirement as Knicks? It's fairly standard practice in other sports (especially football - see Tomlinson, Ladainian).

Who wouldn't love if Patrick Ewing came out of retirement to sign with the Knicks... only to retire pretty much immediately? (Knicks should have thought about this earlier?!)

"Now my journey is complete. I've retired as a Knick."

His unceremonious ending with a stint in Orlando was ultimately quite sad. And it would be a lovely gesture from Knicks management, saying they wanted to make things right.
