Portland has finalized the buyout agreement with F Shawne Williams, per source. He was owed $3.1 million next season & joins free agent pool

Shoots the three, defends opposing SFs and PFs and rebounds well.

Sign him up!

I always thought Shawne played well for us when he was year.
But I admit to not following him one bit since he left.

Any reasons as to why Portland would buy him out? Has his game deteriorated?

This guy was a product of D'Antoni's system. That's it.

I think Portland just saw him as a throw in for the Gerald Wallace deal to the Nets. He also had a terrible year shooting the three, and that's a problem if you're one major offensive contribution is supposed to be the ability to stretch the floor. I give him the minimum and take it from there. If he can regain he touch, great! If not, cut him and move on.

Sometimes it's about where guys fit and the style of play. Woodson essentially ran D'antoni's offense with more iso for Melo.

You do remember how Novak did pretty well in the spread offense, even under Woodson, right?

Shawne would be a capable backup for Amar'e and can spread the floor which means he'd be a good fit playing next to Melo.

Please no Shawn Williams! A shooter who can't shoot! Go back to the nets!

part of the talented Shawne Williams issue is I dont think he keeps himself in great shape
he isnt in horrible shape but he gets hurt far too easy for nicky nack injuries, his play suffers
he done great things here but his attitude is also hit or miss

He played well for us, then was terrible when he left, then had foot surgery. I'd work him out first to see if he's returned to form. He can be had for the minimum and didn't want to leave us in the first place. Could be a nice pick up if he's recovered.

Can see once Shawnee doing them dumb things on court coach Woodson and Williams getting into a rumble & closed door fistfights

You bring him back. He is a great 3pt shooter and an all star defender... (compared to Novak ;-)
Would love to have him back here. If he doesn't play well he won't get court time. No loss, win win situation.

I bet he clears waivers due to his injuries.

We desperately need shooters and rebounders and defenders- he ticks those boxes if healthy and is cheap.

The front office needs to go after J.J. Hickson.

Get Him To The Greek!

You wanna go retro? Bring back Mozgov in 2013

Shawne Williams was cool for that moment. Steve Novak does many of the same things and is more fun.

You want another sweet shooting big man? Get Rashard Lewis.

i wouldnt mind...he played good defense and he can shoot (but only from the corners...lol)
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better
