I always get the sense that the knicks always seem to get outsmarted by other teams. Obviously isiah was abused by every GM during his run,the melo trade is still in progress, and now thsi landry fields thing. Now I dont think fields is worth 7 million a year but now it will difficult to get nash and we may also lose a player as well

Sometimes loses are gains. That applies to both Nash & Fields

Hey, last year we got Tyson, Lin, Novak, and JR - all came out of the blue. Great job by the Knicks front office. We did the outsmarting.
Let Fields go for $20 mil. Time to retool and bring in someone else. (I liked Fields and am glad he is going to make a lot of money. Glad/hope it is not from us.)

How is Landry Fields not returning not a gain for us? Now if we get Sonny Weems instead, then I'll admit it's a loss.

Hard to say we always get outsmarted when we added talent like crazy and with the exception of Chandler, didn't spend anything to get it. We got Lin, Novak, Davis, and Smith for dirt cheap. Fortunately we have never cut a player who turned out to be Lin's caliber. How do you think all of the teams who need a future PG (Dallas and Houston come to mind) feel that they let go of Lin?

I don't know if giving a scrub like Fields 20M is outsmarting anyone. It's a desperation move to get Nash.

I never said it was. In fact i said giving landry 7 million a year is beyond stupid. I meant that toronto has outsmarted us in our pursuit of nash i could care less about fields

I actually like the players Grunwald pulled in including Jorts. We haven't have a bad stretch at all. If not for the injuries we could've had a much more interesting playoff series and maybe a different outlook. We haven't lost anything yet so let's see how all of this plays out in the end. There's still a long way to go.

Outsmarting someone is when the other party could've prevented something from happening. The Knicks actually put together a more than feasible plan when no one gave them a chance. No way they could prevent Toronto from offering Fields a crazy sum to block the Knicks creative maneuvering. It's not as if Toronto was going to even go after Landry had the Knicks not been in the Nash hunt. Knicks haven't been outsmarted. They've been out-desperate-ed.

great way of looking at it and I hope you are correct. Just got toronto to overpay fields by about 15mil for 3 years. And never actually entertaining the ridiculous notion of actually getting Nash

Of course we've had occasional good outcomes but they don't count if you're a .500 team. You should be able to occasionally get to .500 just by picking players by throwing darts.

I think the cap clearing years getting ready for the lbj summer the Knicks were outsmarted/taken advantage of. Last year I thought Grunwald was brilliant
