funny when i posted about how much I wanted Baker a few months ago mostly everyone hated the idea.

I really like the chance we're taking on Baker. He big enough to play backup center, like coleman did for Philly. He won't effect Sweetney, if anything he can take some of Kurt's minutes away for all I care. Also, just incase we don't get Rasheed next year, we can trade KT for another need or a pick and start Baker at PF unless Sweetney is going to breakout next year.

I don't think the booze will be a problem and even if it is..who cares, he's only making 1mil. The Knicks now finally have someone who cam score in the post consistently. Sweetney might be getting there but this is still only his first year.

well, a few months ago we did not have the depth we have now. if we had baker back then he would have to be one of the main components of our core. we did not have enough depth to compensate if he has another meltdown. with the team we have now, baker can contribute whenever. if he does not work out, fine. we have enough players capable of carrying the load. plus he does not have that contract stapled to him. so we can say adios at the end of the year if we want to.

When asked about Baker joining the Knicks, his potential future teammates didn't seem overly enthusiastic. Adding another new player could be another blow to the team's cohesion.

"It is going to take some time," said Stephon Marbury of Baker's ability to understand the Knicks' system. "It is not going to just happen."

What other teamates besides Marbury are concerned. I hope Baker dominated=s the paint and brings an unbridled passion for the game and actually motivates other knicks to step up.....IT'S PLAYOFF TIME.

Baker was fantastic for the first month or so to start the season. He was playing aggressively--- he killed us in our first meeting vs the celtics.

I'm not sure where he fits. I wonder whose time he'll get. He's probably going to be higher on the totem pole than Othella--- he potentially offers us more size, skill, and versatility (othella gives us the lefty hook and some hustle). HOWEVER... over the last few years, he's been overall nearly as soft as Tim Thomas. :)

Hopefully being in NY will toughen him up, at least for 1 playoff run. He's provides us excellent frontcourt flexibility, esp. if and when Kurt Thomas gets into foul trouble.

Exactly, I will admit I am not a Baker fan. The thought of having him here in a trade for Pat Ewing was an awful one, then bringing him in with that contract was just as bad - plus giving him starter minutes. Since he is on the cheap now, we didnt give up anything to get him, the risk is easy to swallow.

I love the signing of Vin Baker, and as a fan, I'll support him an root for him as a Knick and as a human being. ireally hope this new situation will help him and his life, and that he'll shine with the Knicks jersey on him.

Moreover, I really think he'll only play at the 5, behind Nazr. Thomas will stick at the 4, which is very good, and Sweets will stay his backup and get 10-15 minutes a night.

I'm conviced that this is a positive move for the Knicks.

I think KT will remain our starter at the 4... But will also become the backup 5. His reduced minuted at the 4 will be given to baker. and Sweets' minutes will go unchanged at about 15 to 20. I guess we'll see. I never thought the Knicks would have actual depth at the 4/5 spots. go figure...

That article on the front page where Isiah talks about how we'd be screwed right now without Nazr and Mutombo being down is a good one. Although Hindsight is 20/20... the pickup of Nazr was key ESPECIALLY since Deke got injured. Now with Vin in there as well... we're looking good.

I really think so as long as baker plays as good as he did in Boston.

I like what i'm hearing from baker, this guy can somehow ease some of my concern about low post threat who will make us a better all around team.

From the ESPN article:

"The Knicks also activated guard Moochie Norris, and placed guard Frank Williams and Cezary Trybanski on the injured list. Norris missed five games with Achilles' tendinitis."

WHAT ARE THEY DOING ? Frank must be hurting from his mom's death and haven't fully recovered yet.

I have been thinking that maybe the reason Frank has not played as much this season as we expected - Lenny has bounced between Frank and Moochie a lot - is because of the turmoil around his mother (don’t know if it was a sudden thing or not). Maybe Frank was missing practices or whatever that we didn't know.
