This guy has some value, let's say we sign Ray Allen or Kirk hinrich with the MLE,Landry will be the odd man out, can we do a sign and trade for him for draft picks and trade exeption? I hate the fact that we have a good history of dafting people, but we keep trading cur picks

If you sign Ray Allen you really don't need to spend money on JR Smith and Novak...

I want Novak and Allen on the same team, imagine a fastbreak of lin having allen and novak in the wing!

Novak is useless in the playoffs..He can't get his own shot ..Putting some one on him completely nullifies his game..What's the point of adding money to an already bloated roster salary wise that can hamper you going forward especially with next year's MLE..

It would be nice to have guys finish at the rim on the fast break too.

This is ridiculous. The reason teams shut down Novak is because we didn't have a PG penetrating. There was no threat from the 1, so they could get out to Novak and blanket him. If we have a PG, Novak needs about a hundredth of a second to get his shot off.

It's funny. In very limited playing time, Novak is 7 for 13 with 20 points in his playoff career.

Penetrating PG???..Nonsense..Everyone plays defense in the playoffs..In the later rounds the defense gets better..You have to be able to get off your shot..Novak couldn't..Its pointless adding guys who can't help us against the Heat..They are just taking up valuable salary spot and push us closer to the 74 mil threshold where we can't add a full MLE for future years..Novak isn't worth that..

He showed up once in two years and I'll bet anything he doesn't do it again ..Miami was asking him to retire at the end of the season to get the salary spot back...

Novak went 3 for 4 in 2007/08 playoffs which inflated his overall shot percentage with such a small sample size. A better statistical indicator of Novak's playoff performance was that he only had 9 attempts in 95 minutes against Miami less then one every 10 minutes. Considering he is on the floor primarily to be a spot up shooter, this shows his ineffectiveness not only in creating shots but in even being able to get open.

There are plenty of guys in the NBA who can hit open shots. I like Novak but would not overpay to retain him at the expense of tying up the cap further in out years.

It's unfortunate that you fail to see Novak's 3 pt shooting as an asset.

Since you wish to focus on the things he can't do maybe you can seek comfort in knowing that he will undoubtedly command less money than another guy with his skills plus the skills he lacks.

Isn't this thread about Landry?

Had enough Melo?

I would still take Rashard Lewis over Novak. Lewis can at least do other things on the court. Lewis is still a decent three point shooter maybe not as good as Novak but you know he will be more difficult to lock down and Lewis will come at nearly the same price.

You can add Redd to the list too.

To shut down Novak opponent need a man on him all the time.
So they need double team for Melo and defenetally cannot leave Stat, Chandler, and Lin alone...
So how they will defend?
Of couse if we will have Tony, JR, or Melo alike impesonating PG and Melo playing his usual black hole game from the double, with Stat and JR bricking jumpers Novak is defenetally irrelevant.

There's not enough data to draw any conclusions about Novak from the playoffs. I find it odd that the very small amount of data available looks good though. But there's no such thing as artificially inflating playoff numbers. Those four shots all counted. Maybe if you looked back and told me that those four shots were all in garbage time, I'd give a little validity to your claim.

novak came up against a heat defense, not to mention nobody penetrating on the knicks. they stuck to him like glue, woodson did not set screens and our best screener(jared) was getting like 9 mins pg.

Like I said in another post, Woodson has to primarily go with MDA'a playbook if he plans to keep these guy, there tailor made for it, and they haven't had much success with out it.

A system full of Iso's do nothing for lin and novak, absolutely nothing..

Rashard Lewis loss his confidence, in Washington.
Not sure if it is his age or not, but I watched him miss WIDE OPEN 3pter's on many games, like JR Smith vs the Heat.
I mean for the veteran's minimum he would be worth a gamble.

I do like Novak but do not feel he is worth more than 2-2.5m a year, given all the shooters in this FA.
