Sources: Rockets eye Luis Scola dealUpdated: June 30, 2012, 1:39 PM ETBy Marc Stein | ESPN.com
Recommend11 Tweet200 Comments63Email Print The Houston Rockets are actively looking to trade veteran power forward Luis Scola, according to league sources briefed on Houston's plans.

Although a specific trade partner for Houston has not yet emerged, sources told ESPN.com that the Rockets -- stocked with big forwards after coming away with Royce White and Terrence Jones in the NBA draft earlier this week -- are working to find a new home for Scola as they rebuild their roster.

Veteran guards Kyle Lowry and Kevin Martin have also been made available in various trade scenarios by the Rockets as they continue to stockpile young assets as part of their well-chronicled intent to pursue Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard or another franchise player in trade scenarios.

Scola, a 2002 second-round pick by San Antonio, played in all 66 games last season. The 32-year-old Argentinian averaged 15.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in 2011-12, his lowest marks since the '08-'09 season.

Martin and Lowry, along with Scola, represent Houston's three leading scorers from last season despite Martin and Lowry playing in just 40 and 47 games, respectively.

The Rockets tried to deal Martin and Scola to New Orleans last December as part of the failed three-team trade that would have sent Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers and brought Pau Gasol to Houston.

Weren't the Rockets interested in Amar'e at one point? I'd consider an Amar'e for Scola type package. Maybe get Lowry in the deal???

Im not trying to acquire a washhed up 32 yr old undersized PF...Id rather keep the washed up 30yr old PF
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

don't worry, I am sure Houston has no interest in our washed up 30yr old that is making 4x the money that Lowry is making.

Houston is trying to still put a package together for Dwight.

Amare is not the consolation prize to them.

It sounds like Dwight is going to NJ or Dallas.

I'd take Kevin Martin, Scola, AND Lowry for Amare and filler.

Let Lowry and Lin battle for the starting spot.

Evan Massey ‏@EMasseyReport
So the #Rockets are offering Kevin Martin, Donatas Motiejunas (however you spell), Lamb, White/Jones to the #Hornets for Eric Gordon.

Does he say how fast it took for New Orleans to hang up the phone?

The Rockets believe that if they attempt to sign Gordon, that the Hornets will simply match, so they are attempting to do a sign and trade instead.

The sign and trade offer will center around Kevin Martin and the Rockets will allow the Hornets to choose either two or three of their young prospects- Jeremy Lamb, Royce White, Patrick Patterson, Terrance Jones, and Donatas Montiejuns. It is no secret that the Hornets targeted Kevin Martin last summer in the original CP3 trade, and Dell Demps has been fond of Montiejunas for some time now.

Lowry has always been a favorite of mine. Real floor general. I kinds like Scola too. Lowry and Scola for an Amare and Douglas or Fields package is interesting. I like Lin, but I like Lin more in MDA's system.

these scenarios are so silly! We gotta stop this nonsense.

Why don't we trade Amare to the clips for Paul, Blake and Bledsoe.

Yeah, toss in TD to make the salaries work. Seems reasonable.

Nah - if we have to give up TD than I don't pull the trigger.

of course every pg loves to play in Dantoni's offense. The ball is is there hands every time down the court. The rest of the stars stand in the corner while one of the bigs pick n roll

Kinda confused by the response, I didn't say anything about Lin loving MDA's system. I said I don't think Lin is going to be as "Linsane" in Woodson's system. To me Lin isn't a half court style PG, nor is he the type of PG who will truly excel in Woodson's ISO system. To me, Lin needs alot of movement from his team mates to be truly effective-kind of like guys like Nash and Kidd (style of play). Lowry is a half court PG who doesn't need the ball in his hands to make things happen and be effective (Lin, IMO, does).
