Probably out of our price range, but Memphis isn't extending an offer and I think he's be perfect here. Kinda the same type of player as JR Smith, but I'd prefer him. But again, he's looking at around 7-8M per year I think.

He'd look even better at the $5million range. He's become Ben Gordon and many people were expecting him to be more like Joe Dumars. Nothing wrong with that. I just don't want to be the sucker who overpays based on potential.

Actually they are different. Jr really is a catch and shoot wing with athleticism. He should be used like Ray Allen and Korver. I think the staff need to mold him in this role if he comes back. Yes last year he shot poorly but if you look at his percentage on catch n shoots, hand offs, and transition threes he is very efficient.

He is a possible target if we had the 5m MLE to use, but it doesn't look like we will if we keep Lin, JR Smith, and Novak.

He would be my number 1 target if we had the 5 million dollar MLE. With a Max Mid level deal u dont think he would take it. He seemed interested in coming to NY before. Better player then JR Smith.

not sure where he got it from, but al iannazzone (hahn's replacement at newsday) think the knicks will use the full $5M MLE on someone. not sure where he got his info, but he was the only one to report the knicks might look at Kostas P (sorry i'll learn how to spell his last name if he ever comes over).

IF the knicks are using the full $5M MLE, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE OJ Mayo.

I think the kid has a LOT of untapped potential and can play some PG and some SG, so next to Shump or Lin. That'd make for a really potent 3-man guard rotation. You'd still want a veteran pure PG, but I think Mayo could be great.

He has something you can't teach and something in short supply from the Knicks perimeter players- he can create his own shot. I know he's got a bad rep, but I've always liked his attitude.

I think this would be a way to get a real bluechip talent for low money, even at $5M per year.

Sign me up.

I am not sure how the salaries work regarding the hard cap but if we did get rid on Tony Douglas for a 2nd round pick and not pick up JR, couldn't we afford Mayo at 5 million? Not sure I want Mayo over JR though, just saying.

Regardless, I'm surprised OJ's team didn't give him the QO and then just try to get something for him later. I mean, for all the troubles TD had, we still picked up his last year when we didn't have to, albeit for a lot less money.

Of course, given the Bulls needs, you have to think Mayo will be at the top of the Bulls list, too. Do the Bulls have cap room? or just the full MLE?

Vet min is more reasonable. We can't afford to waste the MLE or LLE on him.

uh. what. that's just a ridiculous comment. there's no way Mayo gets LESS than $5M a season.

the newsday writer said the knicks would find a way to use the full MLE. whether that means not bringing JR Smith back, offering Lin or Novak less... not sure. but that's what he said. that's all I'm going off of.

also worth remembering that indiana essentially traded for Mayo at the last deadline and were told their deal came in one minute too late. Indy may be chasing Mayo again, too.

I think Indiana, Chicago and New York will be after him. Maybe Boston.

Anyone who thinks Mayo isn't good look at the list of teams that pursue him. Watch who tries to get him.

he is very talented but he is another *lack of IQ* type of player, with JR Smith and Melo, I don't think we need another.
Having 1 player with that mentality is fine, but 3 is out of the question.
He was a big reason why Memphis loss to The Clippers, with his erratic shooting, and poor shot selection.
I am not doubting his skills, I am doubting his fit.

Along with his high salary and their draft pickup, his poor playoff performance are reasons why he is not coming back with his demand to be paid and mentality play like a "star"

Agreed; I never said what I thought he would get, only what I would offer him.

I exppect Brooklyn to break their neck to sign him. Guy is better than Randy Foye for sure.

I'd give him the full MLE. He is the type of guy that would look sweet next to Melo and Amare.

What has OJ Mayo done in this league anyway? Lots of hype going into his draft, then Memphis selected him & he has been in witness protection since. Never hear a peep about this guy.
At least he isn't out getting arrested alkl the time. He seemed to have a vibe about him that said he would go that route. I'll give him props for keeping his nose clean. Maybe he will find some game soon.

this thread is irrelevant because we cant afford him
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better
