Report: Philadelphia 76ers may part ways with forward Elton Brand
Elton Brand, NBA, Philadelphia 76ers | Comments

The amnesty clause that was included in the NBA’s most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement may strike again. Multiple sources tell Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld.com that the Philadelphia 76ers could use the provision on power forward Elton Brand this summer.

The Philadelphia 76ers may amnesty Elton Brand this summer, according to sources. I heard that from several people at the NBA Draft Combine.

Brand has one year remaining on the five-year, $80 million deal he signed in 2008 as a free agent, but the $18.2 million he is due in 2012-13 apparently is too rich for a 33-year-old who averaged just 11.0 points in 29 minutes last season.

Brand has missed just seven games over the past two years, but age and his previous injuries seemingly have caught up with him, and the Sixers may not be able to get anyone to bite on his expiring contrac

We can use him if he wants to play "at home" for the min.

He can get at least 5mm and is a starter but He'd be a great back up to our front line, insert when players need games off for injury, and can keep amare/tyson fresh thru the season.

Same for Miami. Or Boston if they don't break up their core. Since he is a producer in hollywood to some extent, the Lakers and the Clips.

If they do they might make a run at KG, I'm not sure if they would have the cap space for it though. That would be a nice pairing IMO. Between Collins on the bench and KG on the floor they would be in good shape.

I'm sure there's several teams under the cap that wouldn't mind bidding on Brand, long before we got a shot at him. No way he clears waivers.

he should go to Phx and be revitalized by their training staff.

I don't see any team picking up that kind of salary of waivers- it's an $18 mil cap hit, and way too much to be paying Brand.

No it's not, it's only a % the new team would have to pay, depending on what the highest bid is.

Using Billups who the Clippers won the bid, only had to pay 2 mil of the 14 mil he was owed, and his cap hit is only 2.4 mil.

Absolutely. He would be a great addition. Bringing back a Peekskill kid would be great.

You're right- my memory is getting worse by the day! Yep,in that case there's no way he'll clear waivers, as he'll be seen as a solid vet and good influence on young players

Yep, but honestly, I don't see why they would amnesty him anyway, he's an expiring contract that could easily be traded.

Then why can't we pay 2.5 mil to get him?

Yeah, I call BS. This only make sense if they are trying to clear cap room for another player. They're still going to have to pay the majority of Brand's deal anyway. I don't see that many teams around who are going to throw out more than 2 to 3 million to bid on Brand.

We're over the cap, so we can't bid, and all we have is the BAE, MLE, which the MLE is going to Lin.

I think Philly has to amnesty him, no disrespect to Brand.
Kevin Garnet would make lots of sense, they need an upgrade at the Center position.
then again, who can't use a 7'0 center, with range, length, good speed/quickness for position, and great team/man defense.
He would be a great mentor to Vucevic as well.

They have to see what they are going to do with AI, Evan Turner, and Theadous Young.
Who is staying out of the 3 and what other positions they need to upgrade with this years FA.
Get the finishing touches of their makeup of their team, probably an upgrade at the PG, Center, and SG, with the rest of the bench.
Jrue Holiday wasn't consistent in their post season and is a big combo guard, maybe another PG like Kidd to split the duties with.

Also, a trade with AI and/or Turner/Louis Williams for Pau Gasol would be a nice option for both teams.

I call it BS, and I seriously doubt they do all that much of a change.

Wait, why would Garnett sign with Philly?

Brand would probably go to the Celtics before KG went to the Sixers for 1 last ride.

Nobody knows if Brand thinks he is a starter or bench role player. I think he would go to some veteran team with a chance to start.
