I like it. Now they can use him as trade bait in the offseason.

KT at 8-9 million a year for four years is hardly trade bait. That is the type of contract that teams want to unload.

well... i think they had to sign him to trade him... but this reminds me of the contracts we gave to 1) 'Spoon and 2) Rice.

Especially Rice. After playing horribly for us with various injuries, we gave him a nice 4 year extension. WTF!?!

At least 'Spoon came from a double-figure rebound year.

The ESPN article about Thomas has a major boo boo--- there's no way he's averaging 14.3ppg.

Thomas is a good player IMO, however, that amt of money is remarkably close to what Elton Brand is getting. Kind of sad. Isn't it nepotism for Isiah to give Kurt that kind of money? :)

If he is getting 8Mil, I think we are giving him about 1 Million more than his true worth.
With that said...
If we lost Kurt in the offseason without a decent replacement (Sweetney is not ready) then we would have been royally screwed next year. I'd rather bite the bullet for the 1 million difference then to lose him with nothing in return. Kurt is worth at least 7 Mil with what he brings to a team. Many teams would love to have him for that price. So I'm not too worried about giving him 1 to 1.5 Mil over that.

Since his contract is rumored to be $30M for 4 years it probabaly is structured something like this.

Year 1: 6M
Year 2: 7M
Year 3: 8M
Year 4: 9M

So in his first couple of years he is pretty tradeable. Just my thoughts.

If Sweetney proves himself in the playoffs.. then he will be ready.
Right now is too early for him to take the Starting 4 spot.
If KT's contract is like Andrew said... 6,7,8,9 then it is a fair deal.
He is certaily worth more than 6 but not as good as 9.
makes for a nice trade bait when he has that one year left.

I think we'll see alot more contracts with big numbers in the final year to boost the player's trade value before his last season. Just a trend I think will start to become more of a norm as the years go by. Offer low digits the first couple of years and rack up that cash for the final year... Smart management if you ask me.
