Can someone explain to me how Tyson Chandler was defensive player of the year, but didn't make first team? I'm glad logic prevails.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Whoever made it is irrelevant. If Tyson Chandler isn't good enough to be first team all defensive, he shouldn't have won DPOY. Source: Logic. It's like winning MVP but not making the All-Star Team.

I don't know I always get the feeling they wait til the playoffs to get a better feel for these awards. Or are their votes in before the playoffs start? It's a conspiracy to me. Ibaka has been a monster in the playoffs whereas Chandler had the flu and stunk it up

Except that it was against Dwight Howard, not Ibaka. Howard hasn't played.

It is official all NBA awards have lost its meaning. How do you win DPOY and not make first team.

The Defensive Player of the Year is voted on by sports writers and broadcasters and the All Defensive team is voted on by the 30 NBA head coaches.

I guess it is because he was obviously the most important player to our team, which showed when he wasn't in the lineup.
We were only a top defensive team when he was playing his best. He obviously wasn't enough for us to go past the 2nd round and/or even make it a series.
While we did have many injuries and "The Flu", we were no where competitive on either end to be considered a challenge for The Heat.
The series showed, we had not chance in containing the Heat, with the DPOY. While I somewhat agree with what you guys are saying.
I think this is what decided the decision of Chandlernot making the 1st defensive team.

Like Lebron and Durant, Durant should have been the MVP for the league, but I guess since he was the scoring leader already, the league wanted to share some of the glory to the "King"
Lebron is worth more to to OKC to some eyes because, OKC still has players like Harden and lesser extents, of Westbrook and Ibaka.
There is much more talent in OKC vs Miami and their bench.

It was obvious we didn't have the ability to contain the Heat, with DPOY, I would like to make it our #1 priority this summer to add the right players to continue this ability to make us a great defensive team. While adding penetration from the back up PG, and from other positions like OKC, while utilizing the ability to move the basketball like The Spurs, with the combination of penetration, post presence, good spacing, with good shooters, and good ball movement.

This is why I would like to trade Amare very much, because he hurts our defense, and we need a nice anchor of Tyson Chandler, a healthy Iman(it was our biggest blow, the way he went down, looks very serious, and will be a big ??? for next season), with an additional 2-3 players, to be our anchors.

I feel TC, took too much weight on his shoulders, while trying to do too much. He was our only true legit consistent RB, shot blocker, and setting great screens *aside from JJ*
We need a player that contribute as a help defender, so TC doesn't always leaves his man, losing position for the RB, and make our opponents guess if he will help or not.
This player must be able block shots, grab rebounds, fight for position, while not being a weak link, and good overall game. Taj Gibson would be a great example of what we need
but Chicago will not give a player of his caliber up, or the other DPOY candidate, Serge Ibaka.

There are some players that are attainable would as FAs and would fit the description with versatility would be
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AK47
Odom

Kenyon Martin
Diaw
JJ Hickson
Ryan Hollins

maybe have a combination of a stretch 4 type with a defensive 4 as well
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Donte Green is 6'11, with good athleticism, and great reach.

Reggie Evans, while he isn't a real shot blocker or scoring presence, he would be a nice energy player to compliment what TC does, with hard work, and hustle, on our bench.

Camby, I am not sure if he can play with TC given their lack of offense, speed at their age, but they would bring some shot blocking/length together. To me, Camby should always be the weakside shot blocker, I would welcome him back to the Garden, but he just always seems to be looking for the team willing to pay the most for his services, rather than the team that would fit what he can fit in and/or chase a ring.

FULL MLE candidates, not sure if any of these guys will be attainable with just the FULL MLE, but should keep an eye on
=========================================================================================================================

KG, I don't think we will be the only offering the FULL MLE for his services, after his performance in the play offs, even with his age, he is still one of the best all round players and defenders in the league. UFA

ILaysova, is a stretch 3-4, with a deadly shot but he has insane reach that helps his abilities to rebounding, 2nd chance points, shot blocking, steals, and dangerous on the fast break. UFA

Ryan Anderson, can hit that 3pointer, and grab some some rebounds. He is much better than Amare in defense and rebounding, and can actually spread the floor. However, he average at best for his defensive/ rebounding for his size and position. RFA

I still believe ATM, do not work well together, and will never work well together.

As DPOY, our most solid player this whole season, and if OKC loses to The Spurs,
I would offer TC, and throw ins, of their choice of Fields, TD, Jerome Jordan, Jeffries,

and/or

*Jorts* i think he would benefit though with the penetration abilities of Harden and more PT with if move Chandler

for

James Harden and Perkins *while moving Westbrook is also an option because of his premadonna attitude, poor decision maker, and poor shot selection, especially with Durant as a #1 option, Westbrook is making max $, while Harden is a much better 2nd option to Durant. Westbrook is still an amazing athlete and is very young and they can be enough for Howards or Gasol's services. But players like KG, Kidd, Nash, and Tyson Chandler make much less and might be more cost efficient.

With Ibaka and Harden looking for 12million + to max in 2 years, after their rookie deals expire, it might be a deal that would work well for both teams.
James Harden will get much attention here in NY for endorsements, while $ will not be a factor for Dolan.
He can help our team with his ability to score, handle the ball, and shoot.
He is under rated as a rebounder and defender with his combination of speed/quickness, athleticism, and strength.

As for Perkins, he is not nearly the defender that TC is, but he has some post moves, with a 17 footer, to work blend in better with Stat.
Whether it is Westbrook or Harden, teamed up with Lin and Iman, it would greatly improve our offense, and perimter defense.

If I'm understanding those #s right, 16 coaches voted for Dwight for first team and 13 voted for Tyson. It was very close.

I'm sorry but CP3 being in there is a joke. And Chandler should be there instead of Dwight.

I think Noah was snubbed over both players.
With Marc Gasol, Roy Hibbert, and Bynum as candidates as well.

agree with Solace
makes no sense other that Dwight is Center position & perhaps there can be only 1 ? NBA dont want to slight Dwight whom deserves slight here !
How the D' player of yr doesnt win team is beyond my scope ?

If you ask me Howard yr 2011/2012 has been a down yr for Dwight standards

With Amare and Melo on the front line Tyson was the defensive player of the year.

Those two make the job that much harder!

NY bias? Who knows.

Maybe the Buffett for the press at MSG is the best!
