They screamed when the Lakes made this deal, but it set memphis up nice. They got:
In exchange Memphis will receive forward Kwame Brown, guard Javaris Crittenton, guard Aaron McKie (who the Lakers signed earlier today), the draft rights to Marc Gasol and first round picks in 2008 and 2010.
Basically two first round picks, Marc Gasol and the cap space to get Zach Randolph. Zdumb looks real good next to Marc Gasol.
Franchise on the rise. Two years in the playoffs.
Lakers won two Championships and lost 1 since that trade..That's 3 finals appearances since 2007..
There are "Win-Win" trades!
I always hoped Denver and Knicks deal will conclude similar. My point it Memphis had to dump its star and diversify its money in other areas. They got a young core together. Second year in playoffs, or If not they got close last year.
Small market team has to win to make money and they are the only game in town.
Lakers got a hell of a player in Pau and got some bling. By drafting Marc whome they did not need at the time they had a big asset to trade. Thats how the lakers get richer.
They did the right thing by drafting Marc and trading him for a championship piece at the right time.
My point was Memphis looked stupid at the time.
Minny looked stupid drafting Rubio at the time.
Knick fans wonder how we can also get so lucky.
Patience.
Denver got good value for Melo but its the small moves that can pay off. They are rebuilding and still made the playoffs twice post Melo. I admire the job they did handling moving Melo. Also by moving Nene as they did after they felt they made a mistake. I don't know how McGee pans out but it could be good for both. At the same time Nene brings a veteran presence to the Wiz they so need.
Win-Win.
Its not always about who gets the better player(s) but what a team needs in return.
Melo and Tyson are great additions for our team conceptually and I hope like all we can win on the court and not just on paper.
