This kid is John Starks 2.0 in so many ways. His talents and physical gifts are impressive but his lack of consistency is a problem for him.

His off court "problems" or "needs" make him a tough read on how to put a price on him.

While $2.5 million is low and I would expect him to opt out, I just wonder how much he is truly worth?

What are his work habits? The kid obviously has a ton of athletic ability and could be a star in this league.

He is fun to watch but I can't peg his role or the type of money he is worth.

I think we are obviously lucky to have him but everyone agrees he is a goner. Like you said, he will most likely opt out an get a bigger pay day. I bet he can get the MLE if not a better long term deal.

It all depends on what he wants out of his career. I get the impression he really enjoys the NY City spotlight, that's something he won't get unless he goes to another big market team. But there is nothing like NY when the city embraces you.

Is that enough to convince a guy to take a discount? The money first players culture tells me the odds are stacked against us but I still hope some players will want to stay here because we are trying to build a contender.

I think JR is leaving. I think he can get a multi year deal at anywhere between $5-$7 million a year.

Yeah, he is worth MUCH more than 2.5 in this BBall market but after seeing last night and the inconsistency throughout I won't miss him that much. I would like to have him back and not rely so much on him if we have a deeper bench.

What I would like to see us do is get an Avery Bradly style player, plays great defense and just solid, not spectacular. Sort of another Shump, hey wait, forgot, nevermind, we have Shump back. Deep team and Smith isn't so bad, but right now, when he is off, yes he is bad.

The inconsistency is a problem - at 2.5 you live with it but over that and you are overpaying, and I believe like you said, that other teams will over pay.

He is constant on defense. I can take offensive inconsistency. He would be my #1 priority. We are a greatly diminshed team on both ends without him. And if he ends up on the bulls. we're ****ed.

I think he's going to get 8-9M/year. He's better than Wilson Chandler and that's the money Wilson got. To be honest I'd love to keep him at 2.5 obviously, but I won't be heartbroken to see him go. As good as he is some times he can be just as maddening.

I'm still eating the delicious crow over the fact that his entire tenure here has only resulted in some ugly twitter pics and no back pages involving arrests, drug charges or international espionage.

And he doesn't seem to have had any ill affects on the yoots.

Shooting inconsistency aside, I am heartened by his effort and timeliness on D. Maybe China made him grow up.

Maybe he isn't all about the money now.

He's really the only asset on the bench that can scare other teams at BOTH ends of the floor.

Give him what he wants. Not like Dolan's not into possibly wasting money. Anucha cost us $11 mil. JR's worth at least that.

The reason that JR gets major minutes over Fields is he does one thing much, much better than Fields -- which is to bring the ball up as a competent option if the PG gets trapped. Fields' dribble is atrocious for an SG, because he is in reality more of a SF.

JR was nice this year because he provided a spark but in the long run this guy kills chemistry. If he accepted his option somehow I'd like it since Shump will be out and it would be a bargain but this is NOT a guy that you lock up.

He will get at least a full MLE, but more likely in the range of $6-$7mil per. He is a streak shooter, but his intangibles and defense are worth some cheddah. Plus he is an amazing athlete and appears to be a solid teammate. When he gets hot, he is Starks 2.0 and how could any Knick fan not like that?

JR is having his worst shooting season of his career. He is do for a breakout game where he shoots 10-14, hopefully its game 5. No way the Knicks can keep him though its unfortunate. He would be great to have because Shump isnt going to be ready. Maybe the Knicks can guarantee him he starts maybe the playing time can keep him here.
The only guy I think that comes back is Jeffries. The rest of these guys will get more money. I really believe this was the best roster the Knicks will Field with these core players, Scary isnt it. The Knicks future is dependent on Iman Shumpert and Lin developing. The Iman Shumpert injury is a hard one to swallow. I feel liked we got robbed of an All Star potential SG.His D was the key to beating the Heat or Bulls and the chances of him ever being the same are less then 50% Id say

I can live with streak shooting since he makes up for it with defense but his shot selection and chucker mentality ala J Crawford has always been a problem for him and I can only hope we find a better replacement.

I like what JR brought to the team, bad shooting aside. His on ball d was a pleasant surprise, rebounding a plus, and his passing (especially to Novak)has opened eyes for sure. I'm sure he can get the MLE at least from another team, so don't think he's here next year.

If I had to guess right now, JR goes to the Clippers for the MLE. He was already torn between NY/LA, Melo/CP3 before he got here, and there was mutual interest.

Familiarize yourself with modern ACL reconstruction surgery and rehabilitation before jumping to such a silly conclusion. I can't say Shump WILL be as good as before, but he certainly COULD be. And his game will improve as he develops as a player, learning to be more efficient, and less dependent on pure athleticism might turn out to be a good thing for him. He certainly has his work cut out for him this off season.

I'm curious to see how much he gets under this cba- I really have no idea. At the very least he'll get the MLE, I wonder though which teams that have the space will go higher than that? I'm not devistated that we're going to lose him, but it's a shame and he's going to be tough to replace.

If he's going to get the full MLE or more, then I sure hope it's on another team. 2 years, $5 mil is my final offer.

This!! This goes unnoticed too much. I can deal with the offensive inconsistency because he plays hard ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COURT. We don't have many players on this team who recognize the DEFENSIVE side of the game.

Plus, I like that him and Shump have a nice relationship on and off the court.
