It's April 1999. Allan Houston just wins the series against the Heat for us. We go all the way to the finals. We think we have the foundation for a contender for years to come. Houston gets a contract that kills us for years to come (along with the Ewing trade).

Fast forward to 2012. We make a coaching change. The coach has an outstanding record and gets us into the playoffs. Should the Knicks make a run, it would be impossible not to keep him as coach, even though there are reservations based on his history as a head coach.

Obviously, we are finished. But now, if Phil Jackson wants this job nothing is impeding his hire. And if Phil is hired, perhaps he's the one who can make these pieces work, as he did with the Lakers. Realistically, that is the only major change we can make.

I'm just trying to find any possible silver lining. Last nights game sucked the soul out of my being.

This series has been devastating in my opinion. I don't think there is a silver lining. Personally I am having a hard time watching other playoff series because this one has just ruined my passion for ball right now. I love the playoffs. I am hoping once the series is over that I can attend to and enjoy basketball again.

So its a blessing that we are about to be swept again so we can do yet another coaching change? I salute you for trying to spin this positively, but for comparison's sake, its possible Amar'e is our new Houston and instead of finding hope in a new coaching change, it will simply be another reason to get higher expectations and crash and burn come playoff time.

Very possible STAT is the new Houston. It just continues to baffle me how poorly we are playing right now. I have no excitement at all for Sunday. This itself saddens me greatly.

I would have rather not made the playoffs. Shump would be healthy and have a full summer to work on his game.

Feels like the team just slammed into a wall and I'm not talking about the Heat. Structural problems, cap problems, injury problems, signing our FAs, would still be on the back burner if we were giving the Heat a challenge. Now that the winning has stopped its on the front burner. Add coming up on 40 years without a championship and its difficult as a fan to be optimistic right now.

We can dream about PJax taking the job, but I doubt that he would want to coach anything but a team that was very close to contending. That ain't us.

You know what? It's not even the loss. I think I could bear the Knicks not making the playoffs, then we wouldn't have to bear the humiliation that is happening right now. And most probably no Amare picking a fight with a fire extinguisher. What kills me is how we lost games. It's like there is no enthusiasm, no heart. No drive to win or even try.

I'm just tired of watching everyone on this team make bonehead plays. There are no easy baskets, piss poor decision making, overdribbling, no willing to pass, no structure or gameplan, no fundamentals, no open shots, ok I can go on forever. Someone on here called this offense brain dead basketball and that's exactly what it is. Not to mention the defense that carried us all year is barely existent. And as far as the future I bet woody stays which is not a good option plus we have a team full of injury prone, overpaid, prima donnas on the decline. On a positive note we aren't winning 20-30 games which is nice. It could always be worse. But its tough to get excited when there isn't much hope for improvement. I want PJax so badly...Ok sorry rant over

There's only so much a coach can do. If Phil comes here and that the team to stay the course (give the Melo-Amare combo a few more years), then that is a bad thing. Most people will have new optimism that Phil can wave his wand and make this team as good as the league's championship contenders.

Not sure I am going to watch the game today. I'll DVR it, but I sort of don't care about the game. Miami is much better than us and brought to this series a winning attitude, one of a champion. We brought something more akin to a yawn. Stat has exposed his softness (mental and physical and emotional) and may become our H20 albatross.

Then again, maybe pride will re-inject and we will be strong next season. That's a big question mark at this point. Ugh.

Problem is with Phil Jackson, we need multiple post players, and that is something TC and Amare has to really work on, regardless if Phil is an option or not.

On Chicago, Jordan, Pippen, Kukoch were all versatile players that played inside out.
With bigs like Brian Williams, Cartright/Horace Grant, able to hit the 12 footer and post up.
And of course the sharp shooters to spread the floor as well, with Kerr, Paxon, BJ Armstrong.
Good defensive specialist like Ron Harper *playing on Bulls and Lakers* and Rodman

On Lakers, Shaq *inside post to go inside out*
Kobe *mid post*
Robert Horry did a lot of the dirty work, spread the floor as well, and also played the high low. AC Green also did a lot of the dirty work 1 year.
Gasol and Bynum *both post up players with Gasol having guard skills*

Ariza/Odom anchored that 2nd unit with their defense, length, and athleticism as the defense specialist, changing tempos, and creating mismatches.

We saw TC and Amare fight for post position on many occasions, as it leads to the defense collapsing and easy shots.
Woodson did this, with some great ball movement, and a mixture of Melo ISO plays when he first took over, I don't know why they stopped in the playoffs.
Is it the players or is it the coach, that went back to the stagnent "watch Melo go 1v1 mode"
TC also has to have the confidence to knock down that 12 footer and establish himself as a threat.

We are simply OVER POWERED by Miami, we need to solidify the make up of our team, with mainly veteran minimum players, praying players will come back at a lower deal, and if a team will do us a favor by offering Lin a contract, in which we can just match, rather than using our MLE to retain him.
We need to assemble a team, with the ability to defend teams like Heat, OKC, Lakers, Spurs, Chicago, Dallas *depending on who they acquire*, will all likely be back as contenders

Whoever is on our roster needs to develop and work hard in the summer, but we need to give them an idea of what role they will be playing.
For instance, Fields worked on his handle this summer and improved his penetration, thinking Billups, TD, Shawne Williams were going to spread the floor out for him....

If Amare is going to be a starter or play a 6th man (Ginobili type role at center) being the alpha dog of the 2nd unit

Is Melo going to play more PF next year?

What will be out defense core, with Iman unlikely to work on his game this summer, needing time to get back in shape, as well.
We needed to add a player or 2 to compliment Iman/TC defensive intensity, now we just took a big step backwards...

Unfortunately, we really need to see who will come at a discount AGAIN, Grunweld will have to pull some magic out of his ass again.

Realistically we need to add a MLE worthy candidate to this roster if we somehow don't have to use it on Lin
KG, Dragic, Sessions

Vet Minimum candidates include

Back up PG that can actually penetrate, defend, and hit a shot, G/F that can play some limited minutes with the defensive mindset to defend the Wade/Lebrons/ OKC stars
Gaines, Pietrus, Delonte West, Deshawn Stevenson

The athletic PF that can play defense that Amare will never be able to do
Hickson, Reggie Evans, Kenyon Martin

Shooters/6th type role assuming JR and Novak are gone
Redd, Kapano, Anthony Parker, Tmac, WIllie Green

Biannual exemption

Shannon Brown, AK47, Camby, Novak?, Terry, Ray Allen, Billups, Josh Howard, Odom

We need a shot blocking presence to play with and behind TC
Omar Osik, Hiddayi, Greg Stiemsma, basically a Chris Anderson type role....

To play with TC
basically a Taj Gibson/Ak47 type role, hopefully Iman can contribute at 80% by the playoffs, its just unfortunate he won't be able to improve with his worth ethic, over this summer.
Add in another G and G/F to contribute to that as well......
