for one year. Lets step out of the box for one moment--an idea hit me. Can we use the MLE to grab a FA who simply will make this team better--while convincing both LIN and JR to take less with a promise of more?

Can a Phil Jackson hire convince a player like KG or Ray Allen(for examples) to take the MLE and have Jeremy and JR take less? Just examples--but this is where I am going--to get creative and have everyone all in for one year with $$ promise for the next??

When I look at it I have to remember that it’s a business,” said Ilyasova. “Some teams overseas wanted to buyout my contract but I wanted to finish this season in the NBA. This is where I want to be right now, but we will see what happens in the future. Financially, whoever pays me more will be the team that I decide to sign with.

Anything Lin takes goes against the MLE unless he takes the minimum.

If JR picks up the option, that's a coup for
The Knicks

Nah, but I fully expect many FA's to pretend they will sign with us for the vet minimum in order to plumpen the deal they get with the team that the actually intend to sign with.

JR Smith is gone- he has money problems, so can't really afford to go another year on a low salary. Also seeing Shump blow his ACL probably brought home to him how important it is to get a long guaranteed deal for as much money as possible.

I'm glad Novak had a poor playoffs and did nothing as a starter, as it may have lowered his value- really don't want to lose our only 3 pt shooter who has great chemistry with the rest of the team. Still, he's probably gone.

I don't see Lin going for a lower salary, his knee injury (and probably shump's too) should have taught him how important it is to get a guaranteed deal ASAP.

It's a real shame we're going to lose some good players this offseason, and ones that will be hard to replace.

you make great points and I tend to agree.. but some of us knew this would happen once we sold our souls to the "max contract" devil.. we were told that all you need to do is get the star max player and everything falls into place.. players will be running here to play for cheap.... I knew that was BS from the start..

puhahaha. Lin will get the MLE here or elsewhere without his agent having to pick up the phone. and if you think JR or Novak for that matter will play for a discount, you're being delusional.

Indeed.

And considering JR Smith has the tattoo "In Love With My Money" on his side...

I'd venture to guess he's a goner, but maybe he just likes the saying.

The Knicks I believe will actually field a worse roster then they did this year. The teams hopes rested on Shumpert evolving into an All Star type SG and that dream was ripped to shreds in Miami. The Knicks are just another team that will get run over by the Heat. So unless a team is dumb enough to take Amare Stoudamire from them they are going nowhere

I agree, but I thought the roster was going to be weak coming in to this year and we ended up with Tyson, Novak, Lin and JR. Granted this was a special year and under normal circumstances I don't think we land as many players. Regardless, we couldnt win with them so its time to try something new.

JR is not coming back.

I don't think so. A little less depth might be a good thing. Losing JR is NOT a bad thing. Good for him to get a 5 or 6 mil a year deal. He's not getting that in NY.

Lin will be a Knick. The team is NOT losing him. NO WAY. Money talks, and they could give him 8 mil for 5 years, and make that back in merch and tickets in half a season. He's a cashcow. (and a good player with a lot of room for growth).

Novak might go elsewhere, but you never know with guys like him. I don't think his stock is as high as knicks fans think it is.

I want Amare traded, so he can stop getting slapped in the face by all the people who wholeheartedly loved him last year and get into a better team situation. That being said, I still think it can work with him on this team.

^ I agree. At least if Dolan is still a businessman, he would keep the cash cow. As an owner, which do you think will he prioritize more? Ring or Cash? It would be nice to have a ring but it will be cash first. The ring is just a bonus.

That is the most probable scenario. Here are all the reasons the roster may be worse next year:
-We will lose some of the following players: Lin, Smith, Novak, Fields, and Jeffries
-Shumpert will be out
-Toney Douglas is the only back-court member under contract right now who can play on opening day.
-We have no draft picks
-Amare, Melo, and Chandler will all be a year older, and entering their 32nd seasons (combined).

Here are all the reasons we might be better next year:
-Lin will (likely) be returning

I hope Dolan tries to buy a few draft picks.

Get Jax on board, who cares about these marginal players. Gut this whole team if we have to, that includes Dolan. Things were looking so bright with Donnie last year before Dolan started to get involved, how are things looking now?

I'm not going to lie, I wanted melo and we did get the better player in the trade, but sh!t, Wtf do I know about basketball, I had know idea that him and stat didn't compliment eachother or the fact that Dolan was going to go over donnies head and make him quit. They are so unproffesional as a team its not even funny. Melo, stat, care more about playing in the big city letting all this hoopla enter their little diva mentality. Remember how Patrick used to talk down to reporters, now we have these princesses smiling for the cameras, they can't get enough of it I swear. The era of the old school ballers are gone, now these little pussies are taking over.

Compare Jordan to Lebron, nuff said...Reporters used to go into the Knicks lockeroom and were probably intimidated by oak, mase, and ewing. Gotta get rid of these primadonnas stat.
