The Knicks garbage is only fueling my already sh!tty day. Best relief pitcher of all time might be done for ever. If this is it for Mariano Rivera we (NY Sports fans) have been blessed by the presence of one of the most clutch and classiest athletes to ever walk onto a field or court.

Mo... whatever happens, if you come back, if you walk into the sunset, whatever you do... you are the best and we are lucky to have been here to see you do it. Your greatness was only surpassed by your humility, and that was only surpassed by your love for the game.

I hate the Yankees and always root for them to lose, but Rivera has always been the kind of player you curse at and admire at the same time as he is closing out a game and beating you.

It would really sad if this is how his career ends, with no swan song season in which opposing team stadiums recognize his achievement as a player and "celebrate" the fact that he will no longer be around to beat them.

A throwback back player- a classy competitor, and the kind of athlete you want to see more of in sports, but don't get to see as often as you would want anymore (especially in the NFL and NBA).

We had the "Cy Young" of relief pitchers right here for a good long time.

I hope he comes back to some degree. He should be able to walk off the mound and shake this catchers hand, tip his hat and have 55,000 people shower him with love!

He was that kind of player!

A 20 year yankee! Hell of a thing!

Sad for it to end this way if its the end. I would have liked to have seen him getting emotional ovations in every stadium on his farewell tour.

There is no fan who does not hold this classy man in the highest regard

I LOVE MO RIVERA!!! That guy was such a winner that you can hardly put any words together to express what he meant to the franchise. If he's done I will miss him. With all the craziness that goes on in NY sports this guy was a constant source of pride. No BS just professional all Business and about winning.

I was at Friday's game in section 225 (Jeter scored on the passed ball) where Rivera appeared for possibly his last big league win.

If that was the last time I heard Enter Sandman roar throughout the stadium, I'm glad to have been part of it.

The guy has been a true professional and Yankee at it's very core.

If you are a Knick or Yankee fan, what a freaking disaster...I haven't really pulled up a chair yet to take in the Yankee game because of the Knicks..I haven't even seen Mo' this season but for a few times and now this...Wow...

Certainly right... The only positive is Jeter being locked in, like we've never seen.

I mean, what he's doing so far this year and at this stage of his career. Even if you don't like the Yankees, it's impressive.

I think Mo will retire. He is a righty pitcher and it was his right ACL, not a good combo since he pushes off with that leg.

I would hate for him to retire this way but he's in the last year of his deal and he'll be 43 next season. I would hate for him to try and come back and get lit up. It's actually better that the injury happened to his push off leg.

Dark day for NY sports.

He should come back for may be one game and a token close out in the playoffs and Yanks need to make sure they put him on a position to win a World Series and go out on his own terms.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Well, Mo said he ain't goin out like this and I can respect that and he is right on.

But, has anyone seen what Dave Robertson has been doing? 0 ERA, 12 IP, 7hits, 3BB, 21 STRIKEOUTS - he is just a relief pitcher but he is the best in the game right now and it's not close. His ERA last year in 66 IP was 1.08.

He won't pitch for as many years as Rivera, all said and done, but this guy may be the next Rivera for quite a few more years.

What the hell is this thread doing here?

Mo's coming back for the swan song in 2013. Just as well. Give Robertson a season to learn that broken bat ground ball outs are just as nice as strikeouts.

Yankee pitching, which was supposed to be the strong suit of the team, is now a patched up cob job waiting for Andy Petitte???

The Captain batting .400. Gotta love that.

Cano wakes up with a slam, Arod waking up as well, and Swish holding down the fort until all the top cylinders start running.

Little disconcerting that the Mets have the same record we do...
