Ok let's stop with this trading Lin idea already. The kid has enough skills to warrant being a long term solution. We are trying to build a basketball team not manage a portfolio of assets. Signing STAT to $100 M was a bad move, now trading Lin to move STAT is like throwing good money after bad money. STAT is a sunk cost - you either keep him or you get bad contracts back. But you don't give up a promising young player like Lin to move that bad contract.
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Who said anything about trading Lin? We were just talking about how a sign and trade works under the CBA

Lin's a keeper. We can sign him for $5mil for the next few years. Stat is a "sunk" cost, but may actually redeem himself. He has pride and an ability to thrive when playing with a playmaker like Lin.
Sorry for continuing the thread hijack path, but it seems Andrew answered BRIGGS' op.

His trade value should be very high as he is productive in ways off the court few players can match.
His value can actually be measured in dollars and cents. He will cost 5mil a year but how much revenue can he bring in?
Thats before we look at his projected statistics and intangible on court skills.
I agree Lin is priority one--Im hopeful he will take a smaller dealer looking for a bigger deal than the MLE the following year. He can play ball--Im sure he can afford to. Im not interested in trading Lin UNLESS the price was enormous --I mean top 5 draft pick + very good vet player coming back--then Id listen.
