MIAMI — Linsanity may hit the first round.

Jeremy Lin, out nearly a month following left knee surgery, may return against the Heat after all, depending on how far the Knicks can extend the opening-round series after yesterday’s devastating 100-67 Game 1 loss.

With Iman Shumpert out six to eight months after tearing his left ACL and meniscus yesterday and Baron Davis’ back ailing, Lin’s rehab schedule is being stepped up, though there are no guarantees.

Lin went through intense 1-on-1 drills filled with cutting against assistant coach Kenny Atkinson before the game. The Knicks are now somewhat hopeful — if Lin feels well in the next few days — the second-year point-guard sensation could return if the first-round series is extended. That would beat the six-week timetable from his arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus.

Make of that what you will. Not sure if it's a good idea- don't see how he can be in shape when he only started light jogging a week ago. And after watching Shump go down, I don't want him to re-injure it.

It's not worth it.

That is a BAD idea. IDK who's bright idea this is especially considering the injuries that went down today. The reigning MVP tried to fight several injuries and come back early for the playoffs and it cost him his ACL. God forbid he may never be the same player after this. You screw up a knee so early in your career...I don't even need to finish this sentence.
It's not worth risking him aggravating his injury and the possibility of him being our future pg for a couple of playoff games. Not to mention he gets ZERO calls as it is and literally gets bloodied every game. There won't be any refs protecting this kid.

What a horrible idea. If this is Woody's lame attempt to save his job, I will be pissed.

God I miss Lin, but bringing him back early is not the answer.

This would be an insanely dumb thing. I'd rather get swept.

As much of a Knicks fan as I am, and as much as I want to see the Knicks kick the Heats' collective asses, the smart thing to do would be to shut it down now. Concede.

Shump is out. Who defends Wade?

So what do you do, rush back Lin? Push Amar'e? What happens if Chandler's wrist goes?

this is a really bad idea. We are not beating the Heat no matter what, so why risk hurting Lin permanently to play now. You go to war with who we have, and focus on being better next year.

You can see how Game 1's atrocious loss destroyed most of the hope we as fans have. Not that this is a good idea, because if the therapy is rushed instead of Lin being ahead of schedule for his own merits, this has all the making of a terrible thing.

The Shump injury... What can I say? We have all types of cliches for it, from "when it rains, it pours" to "whatever can go wrong, WILL go wrong and times 100." Truth is, we still have enough firepower to make this a series, that is if the main star decides to show up on the scoreboard. Right now, however important it is to get Lin back, I'd rather get him when he IS back and not when he is just being rushed in.

I can't believe you guys are throwing in the white towel. If Lin plays it will be great he needs the playoff experience to use next season. Stumps injury was a freak thing and it can happen to any player any time. If Lin is cleared Medically then why not let him play.

Good chance Shump will never be the same after that injury its not worth putting another player at risk

Lin would have to be cleared before they'd let him play. He didn't have any reconstruction done. They cleaned up a tear. It's not the same thing as coming back from an ACL tear. I don't really see him coming back until maybe a game 6 or 7 so the team would have a lot of work to do.

if I recall, he had meniscus damage. Some posters didn't want to trade for Chris Paul because of that.

It's actually amazing how well Paul has still played. If I understand knee anatomy right, there's still a lot of cartilage under the meniscus, though. So you do have cartilage protection even without a meniscus.

From everything I've read Lin's injury isn't that serious. You can't predict a traumatic knee injury like what Shump and Rose had. It just happens and it's a freak thing. Rose and Shump weren't doing anything unusual when their knees went. Lin's knee will be evaluated and if it's sound that's all you can do. You can't be in fear of a catastrophic injury if the docs say he's fit to play.

No where in the article credits any knick source.

Seems to me the speculation is from the writer who saw Lin work out before the game.

Remember, Amare was doing this for a while also.

Its a fans prerogative to indict anyone at any time but to insist Woodson is going to push the kid and ruin his career is a bit far fetched based on a single paragraph.
