How can we keep Fields Smith Lin and Novak formula anyone?

Give Lin the 2 year LLE and promise him much more with a player option next year. He will make MUCH more in NY than anywhere else off the court. Split the MLE between Novak and Smith 5 years 18mm each. Fields I dont know if we are allowed to just use a matching type formula for him--this is what I am not sure on--to match any offer NOT using the MLE?


The other possibility is using a massive S+T package for LIn where we would get back a top draft pick and a very good NBA player. Nothing Less Lin is the most important man--by either keeping him or getting a huge package for him.

Novak and Smith are very close but Smith is the better all around player. Fields could still be a really good NBA player with a shot correction--but he can also be a S+T for a draft pick and young player type guy as well.

Fields can be matched and will not require the use of the LLE or MLE. Really it all hinges on Lin and how much he wants. Will he take less for the betterment of the team? We will see.

Lin seems to me the kind of guy that would take less espcially since he is gonna make much more outside of basketball. As much as I would wnat JR Smith to stay it seems that he is gonna wnat a lot more money but if we could keep lin and novak that would be great

for most guys i would roll my eyes.

but i think Lin may actually do just that.


(otherwise, and I hate to say this, I would look to package Lin and Amar'e in a deal...)

Maybe this was asked already but can our diva's take cuts to sign our players or are they already over the cap so that would not count?

for all the whining about Melo... it was pretty easy to put the right pieces around him, wasn't it?

when you have great players, it can be really easy to get the right role players around them.

Melo was a foundation piece.

Yeah we dont really need changes--maybe if we can get a couple of vets who want to win to sign for the minimum--otherwise I just want our guys back--gees it should be fair that you can sign your own guys back--that was a dumb rule

y2zipper cleared it up somewhere. You can only restructure right after or before signing a new extension not sure which. But either way that won't come for another 3-4yrs when amare, melo & tyson expire. Will be interesting to see what we do with their expiring contracts. Hopefully we win a few rings until then then they some of them can be resigned!

Thats is true but Grunwald does deserve credit for selecting the right guys. You think Riley and Miami wouldn't love Novak, Lin & JR. Also you have to severely discredit Dantoni for burying Lin & Novak on the bench and continuously losing with Billy FN Walker and Toney Douglas

So then it seems that Novak and JR are almost certainly gone being that Lin gets the MLE

Both of those guys will get decent offers that we can't match.

Would love the No-Salary cap like MLB. Then, we can be just like the Yankees and outspend the crap out of everyone

Thats true. I was happy when they got both guys late last year i had seen them play in summer leagues and felt they were underutilized by their former teams.

From where i sit, JR smith is the most important piece. He's the best defender and scorer of that bunch. And he is a lock down defender. Him and shump in backcourt is ferocious. I'd be training Shump to be a pg and roll like that. And it would be perfect if we get the zen master.

I Like JR but he is a goner he is gonna get offer at the last a full midlevel if not more

JR is easily a MLE or higher player, comparable to Wilson Chandler. I can't see any way the Knicks retain him, especially since they're probably reserving most if not all their MLE/LLE etc for Lin and Fields (possibly Novak).

I think Lin will look to take the full MLE. With his current knee issues, he will need the protection of guaranteed $$. He's not going on the empty promises of a sc-um-bag like Dolan. He's our top priority to sign. So looks like we will need to say goodbye to Novak and Smith. Grunwald will have his work cut out finding replacements.

I don't think Lin can get anything more than the MLE

Yeah, but he will get that offer from other teams, so we will have to match it.
