In addition to Stoudemire, Iman Shumpert will be in the starting lineup tonight, leaving Landry Fields as the odd man out, coming off the bench.

I like the move but did we really have a choice the way Fields has been playing (mostly poor shooting). I think this will help Fields, he'll spend more time in there with Melo on the bench, which is where he shines as he can do more cutting. But, that shot needs to come around...

Glad to hear it. Its obvious that Fields has been working on his drives to the rim but that's not enough to remain a starter.

Earlier in the season, Landry launched a long 2 off the dribble that looked great leaving his hands. His shot had a quick release, he used his shoulders as well, and was nothing but net. Can't remember the last time I even saw him try that again.

Sometimes its better to speed up the release because it gives you less time to over think things. I believe that was Melo's problem as well during his slump (including his injuries).

If you watch Fields it looks like he's making trajectory calculations before he shoots and when he does its all wrist. As others have pointed out, Allan Houston needs to stage a shooting intervention.

Right about what? That Woodson was being honest when he told us Amare would start?

Shumpert has been beastly for us. He deserves it.

I somewhat wrong about this guy. I knew he couldn't play PG but didnt think his defense would be this good. Great pick.

No, that I was saying Amare was going to start no matter what the opinions were to the contrary.

Woodson said that he would start and was not lying. The question is, would he be better off in the second unit? You don't think so and that is fine but it certainly has merit to think that for chemistry purposes and to give scoring pop to the second unit.

I like to think that merit and reality should be expressed together. The reality is this is a league of egos and entertainment, not a chess club. Providing better second unit scoring pop is something you do with a JR Smith, not someone like Stat. How was sitting Stat going to help HIS chemistry? Was anyone actually thinking he was going to give insightful pointers to Jorts and Gadzuric?

Other than your ego argument, what are you saying to support or deny that the Knicks are better off with Stat starting. I am not sold either way and believe that time will tell. I don't care how much he is making, that was his luck that he got that contract - I don't believe we owe him a thing. I felt the same way about Houston - you got your money now we need to do what is best for the team and what is best to keep you as healthy as possible and fresh.

love shump in the starting lineup. he should start for the rest of his career.

he's the main reason in addition to tyson and woodson that the defense is so good this season.

How is your chemistry argument any different than my ego argument? I think the Knicks are better off with Stat starting because I don't see him transitioning to a bench role when he's been starting his entire career, and no matter what affect he has on the starters, he's not going to be useful off the bench at this point in his career. This is a money league and talking about bench value from players who are never going to the fill that role right now is fairly pointless. I'm sure Tyson would add great defensive presence to the second unit too. It's still not going to happen.

And Houston continued to start despite being one of the greatest second-half disappearing artists in the history of the franchise, and despite the fact that Spree was the protoypical 2 guard at both ends of the floor.

I've said this before but the two most important defensive positions are center and guard. Shump can and does disrupt the opposing PG if need be. And then you have Chandler there to really shore things up should anyone get through the guards or enter into the paint.

It is an incredible two headed monster. Think about that... How many teams have GREAT DEFENDERS at those two positions?
