JR has an opt in clause for about 2.5 mil for next year..I really hope the Knicks find a way to keep him for 2012/13 season...He is just the right mix for what the Knicks need off the bench...Surprisingly he brings hard nose defense and rebounding...He is streaky so you know what you are getting immediately...He isn't afraid to shoot and doesn't always defer to the stars which helps the balance we are looking for...He can finish games with the starter given the needs of a particular game...He has been a pleasant surprise...A little bit mercurial if you will, a la John Starks...I like the edge to him...Bottom line is this kid plays hard and solidifies the bench along with JJ2...I think a few teams out there contending can toss more money at him...The Knicks must bring him back...

I'm not at all a Smith fan but he's worth 2.5 mil. So it would be good to keep him.

I'm a Smith fan because he has listened, played defense and made some important baskets.

I'm a Smith fan because he is from the John Starks mold of streaky shooting and passionate basketball.

I'm a Smith fan because everyone deserves a second chance.

I'm a Smith fan because he is the prodigal son, tats and all.

I'm a Smith fan because he is different and if everyone was the same it would indeed be a boring place.

Keep him.

I was against brining him in, but I agree, I hope he comes back. In addition to what you said, he has been hustling his ass off in every game and he looks to get Novak the ball more than anyone else on this team.

Maybe he prefers to stay close to home, but you gotta think he could get a nice chunk of change if he opted out.

totally agree. If it came down to it, I'd keep him over Fields.

I think he has money problems, unfortunately (I vaguely remember reading it when he returned from China), which makes him more likely to opt out and sign with the highest bidder. They'll be a few teams will offer him at least the MLE.

If TD gets his game back, maybe he can be JR's replacement next season

I think he stays, his agent said he would pick up his player option a few week ago. I also think he likes living near all his family and friends.

Well it's his option. Who would you guys keep if it came down to Noval or Smith? Tough choice I think. Both play extremely important roles.

Novak has a far more positive impact on the game than Smith does. I know a lot of people are high on Smith but he really doesn't do anything well. He's adequate in a number of areas and worth keeping for 2.5 mil but it's much harder to replace a guy who hits almost half his 3 point shots.

JR Smith holds the cards since he has a player option. We will be using our MLE on lin so if JR decides to return that will be good

Agree. He is decent on d, passing and scoring. Definate two way player. When he is on he can score with the best of them and pass like a top PG as well. But best 3 point shooter in the league? Night in and night out? Every team needs and has a guy like JR. Well almost every team. The top contenders anyway. Not every contender has someone who is automatic from downtown, and we have the best one of them all. Korver, Anderson, Ray Ray - I'd rather have Novak.

Why would you want to keep Jr Smith? Have you seen him play on offense? Makes Jamal Crawford look like Magic Johnson.

I don't mind his bad games because you know he can have games where he takes over. Even with his streaky shooting his D and hustle seems to always be there. Our other option is Fields and we all know his shot is broken.

yeah, JR was cold as ice today but still made some huge baskets and huge defensive plays down the stretch. he's a keeper. let's hope he loves melo and wants to stay.

A perfect bench guy does not shoot 37%. Streaky just means inconsistent. You could be streaky but still shoot 48%. Smith is simply a liability on offense. And it's because he has a bad brain.
