Thought this guy would have potential to be very good and hes starting to show it.He can play PF at 7 feet and would be a very nice PF next to Chandler with Amare having his minutes monitored as a sixth man. I don't want to pay 25 mm on a back up PG but Mullens can either be first big off the bench who can play either position or starting 4.

Jeremy Lin is going to likely eat our MLE up this year.

Wouldnt mind Mullens but I prefer a seasoned vet to backup Chandler.

Everything I've read says if we want to keep Lin, we'll have to use the MLE on him.

BJ Mullens is cool and all, but he would eat Jorts's food.

Jorts is our guy for that David Lee role.

Mullens is more polished than Jorts, longer with good range.

Briggs had a good line on this kid and he was a great pick up for the Bobcats.

I haven't watched any Bobcats games, because that team is awful, but every time I've checked their box score, he's put up great stats. However, I find it odd that on a team starved for offense, he got relegated to the bench and saw a decline in his minutes despite (from the stats) playing well- why was that? Is he a bad defender or something? Or was it just a case of an injured starter returning?

I don't know if it's at all possible mathematically, but our focus should be sorting through the couch cushions for enough coin to keep Novak around.

exactly... I'm not sure how we're going to be able to keep Lin, Novak and Fields (if we want to)

BJ is a little taller but same weight as Jorts. Plus BJ can't tickle twines from the long range!

Jorts we have locked in, BJ would cost something!

I'm reading Larry Coon's site and I think I might understand some of the exceptions we can use. Hopefulle JR Smith uses his player option for next year, but I wouldn't hold my breath; the MLE will be used on Lin; and we should have the bi-annual exception which would allow us to resign Novak, Fields, Jeffries, or another team's free agent. There's also something called the Non-Bird Exception and, from what I can tell, it allows us to sign any of our Non-Bird free agents to the greater of 120% of their previous years salary or 120% of the minimum salary for up to five years. If I'm reading it correctly, as long as the players are willing, their should be no reason we can't keep this team together past this season.

EDIT: I should mention, I'm not sure if he's updated his site with rules from the new CBA.

Novak is getting the minimum. No way that guy deserves anything more than that.

He is a 3 point specialist no more no less.

and 3 point specialists get paid...

Sources told ESPN.com that Korver, formerly of the Utah Jazz, will sign a three-year deal worth an estimated $15 million.

Free-agent sharpshooter Jason Kapono became the first player to commit to switching teams this summer when he reached a quick agreement Sunday to leave the Miami Heat and join the Toronto Raptors for what is believed to be a four-year deal worth roughly $24 million.

That's not true at all. The minimum is for guys at the end of the bench; guys who are either completely unproven or have proven that they have no real, discernible NBA skill. Novak's shown that, if used correctly, he can be a valuable member of an NBA team. He's definitely worth more than the minimum.

I wouldn't say he's more polished. Dude still looks raw and settles a bit too much on offense. But he does have a high ceiling. I'd hesitate to give 4 or 5 years guaranteed at this point.
